“Bandhan”(1940) was directed by N R Acharya for Bombay Talkies, Bombay. The movie had Leela Chitnis, Ashok Kumar, v H Desai, P F Pithawala, Shahnawaz, Suresh, Arun Kumar Mukherji etc in it.
Six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the seventh song from “Bandhan”(1940) to appear in the blog. This is a topical song as it is about the arrival of Saawan.
Leela Chitnis is the singer. Pradeep is the lyricist. There were two music directors in this movie. This song is composed by Saraswati Devi.
Only the audio of this song is available. It is clear that the song was picturised on Leela Chitnis herself.
The entire two minutes long song is sung in one go withut any pause. I have broken down the lyrics in three stanzas for convenience but in reality the entire song gets played without pause, much like a quick passing shower. 🙂
PS-Later, I came across a longer version where there are proper stanzas and there are repetition of some lines. The shorter two minutes version is apparently the picturised version of the song (taken from the video of the movie) whereas the longer version is the record version.
