Dushman (1971) was a movie starring the hit Jodi of the 70s viz. Rajesh Khanna- Mumtaz. It was the story of a convict who is given a punishment with a difference. His truck runs over a villager who is the only earning member of the family. The poor victim is responsible for his old parents, unmarried sister and his own family –wife and two kids. Now the judge gives the truck driver (Rajesh Khanna) a punishment to look after the family, their field etc. in the village he comes across a girl who shows bioscope shows to the children in and around the village. Falls in love with her. Tries to solve all the problems of the accident victims’ family etc. this is the story in brief.

Now today is my favourite bioscopewaali’s birthday. Mumtaz! She turns 68 today. She started her life in Bollywood at a very young age … child star in Sone ki Chidiya (1958). As a teenager she was an extra in movies like Sehra, Stree, Vallah kya baat hai etc. Her first role as an adult was as sister to Rajendra Kumar in O.P.Ralhans’ Gehra Daag (1963). Then came a string of 16 or 17 action films which gave her the label of a Stunt Heroine.

The 1969 Raj Khosla movie “Do Raaste” opposite Rajesh Khanna saw her become a full fledged heroine. What followed then was roles with all major heroes of that time….Jeetendra, Shashi Kapoor, Feroz Khan, Dharamendra, Sanjay Khan, Sanjeev Kumar etc. She was also heroine to Rajendra Kumar in “Taangewala”. She has won best actress award for “Khilona” as well as Life time achievement awards from IIFA and filmfare. She is samdhan {don’t know English for it ;-)} to her ex-co star Feroz Khan. Her daughter is married to Fardeen Khan. She quit acting in 1978 but made one movie “Andhiyaan” in 1990 opposite Shatrughan Sinha as Prasenjit’s (Biswajeet’s son) mother.

On her birthday today I present a song which I used to love to hear and see a long time back. Especislly her dance and facial expression. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar, written by Anand Bakshi and music is by Laxmikant- Pyarelal
