There is a controversy, nicely explained by Sudhirbhai, that the abridged version of the 1957 film ‘Anjali’ has surfaced on Internet titled as ‘Arpan’. This version is only one hour long and all but one of the beautiful ten songs of the original film are ruthlessly ‘butchered’’ from this abridged version. I am sure the person with the pair of scissors must not be bestowed with appreciation for GOOD music. My ‘bud-duaa’ will haunt him even in hell, where he is a permanent resident now.
I had read what the critic Harjap Aujla had mentioned somewhere about the magic of Jaidev’s music:
“Music director Jaidev had a sublime musical taste. He always composed tunes to satisfy his own rich taste of music. That is why only those film producers contracted his services, who were bestowed with appreciation for good music. Such people are few in this world, therefore Jaidev’s music is in very few films. But his music still lives long after he is gone.”
My sleeping time these days is just before ‘raat ke pichhle prahar’. So ‘main kya jaanu’ why either ‘Nimmi’ or ‘Sheila Ramani’ cried in that ‘pichhle prahar’? Since video of the song (frankly, of the entire film) is NOT available, let us enjoy the SONG with the simply worded lyrics by Nyay Sharma, in melodious voice of Asha and the enchanting music of Jaidev.
