“Shikaari” (1946) was directed by Savak V Vacha. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Paro, Leela Mishra, Rama Sukul, S L Puri, Kishore Kumar etc in it.
Eight songs from “Shikaari” (1946) have been discussed in the past. Here is the ninth and penultimate song from the movie.
HFGK mentions this song as sung by Paro Devi and chorus. Listening to this song makes it clear that this song has two distinct male voices it it and one of those voices is clearly that of Kishore Kumar. Yes, it was in this song where Kishore Kumar got his first break as a playback singer, by singing in chorus. S D Burman, who himself was making his debut as a music director with this movie utilised the voice of Kishore Kumar for the first time. So one can say that it is the debut song of Kishore Kumar in HFM. The other male voice sounds like that of Arun Kumar Mukherji.
Only the audio of this song is available. It appears that the song is picturised as a dance song where Paro Devi, Kishore Kumar and others perform. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist of this song.
This is the ninth song out of ten from this movie to appear in the blog. The tenth song is “Aaj poonam ka chaand khila…main akela hoon”. HFGK does not have any details about this song and the song itself does not seem to be available. I have read somewhere that this song was sung by Kishore Kumar and that it was the first solo playback song by Kishore Kumar in HFM, two years ahead of “Ziddi” (1948) song that is considered Kishore Kumar’s first solo playback song. I request our knowledgeable readers to offer their remarks on this fact and about the whereabouts of this elusive tenth song from “Shikaari”(1946).
As of now, we are one song short in “Eight Days”(1946) as well as “Shikaari”(1946), the two debut movies of S D Burman as a music director. This state of affairs may continue till the elusive final songs of these two movies are unearthed.
For now, let us enjoy this lovely and lively song from “Shikaari”(1946).

My quizz about Kishore’s first song was rangeela rangeela(present post) which is from Shikari-1946; full 2 years ahead of Ziddi-1948. It WAS a difficult one; no one could crack it.
There is another song from Shikari-1946 which is to be covered>>> jagmag hai aasmaan sung by Ashok Kumar, Paro apart from aaj punam ka chand khila

“Jagmag hai aasmaan” is the same song as “Dol Rahi hai naiyya”, which is in two parts and has already been covered.
