Missing Films of 1960s – 12

OK, back from ‘Bapu Ne Kaha Tha’ and on to the next available movie in this sequence. Today, I am posting a wonderful song from the 1962 film ‘Manchali’. Ah yes, we had another ‘manchali’, before the more well known film of the same name from 1973 starring Sanjeev Kumar and Leena Chandavarkar. It appears that this film most likely sank without making any ripples, or leaving any memories behind. There is really very little information available for this film.
The Geet Kosh lists the name of the banner only. In terms of the artists, the only information printed is that Jamaal Sen is the music director. Three songs are listed. Against two of the songs, including this one, the name of the lyricist is given as SR Saaz. Further, against two of the songs, excluding this one, the names of the singers are given. Ah yes, the Geet Kosh also gives an alternate Hindi name for this film – ‘Badla’. That may indicate the probable nature of the storyline.
As I checked online, on myswar.com, I am able to find six songs listed, with one variation from the Geet Kosh. One of the songs listed in the Geet Kosh is not listed on myswar.com, but four other songs are listed. Either there is a different title line that is being used in these two sources, or that there is an error somewhere. Implying that the list of songs available is still to be confirmed.
On the IMDB, there is some additional information available. The name of the film director is listed as RC Talwar. Also, four names are listed in the cast of actors – Suresh Naik, Mallik Shahzada, Mahesh Shastri and Master Prakash Shukla. I am only providing the available information here; this is not confirmed from any other source yet.
The friend from whom I received some songs of this film has indicated the singing voice is that of Suman Kalyanpur. I request other learned friends and readers to please add more information about the film and the song.
The composition by Jamaal Sen is really lovely. A lingering song of deliberated melancholia. One can only wonder about the reasons that this song was unable to capture the attention of the listeners.
So, getting one more obscure film from 1962 on to this blog today. Listen to another obscure gem that has so far been hidden under layers of dust, in the side alleys. And yes, many more still waiting to be discovered.

What a melodious tune in raga ‘Yaman’ by the great composerJamal Sen with ‘Sureeli’ Suman singing !!

Osianama.com has a poster and a few still photographs from the film BADLA (1962). They list dialogue and lyrics by S R Saaz , music by Jamal Sen and directed by P Pulliah. The film appears to be a remake of Telugu film on the basis of the main star cast.
