I am glad that I posted this song when I did. As per my search, this is possibly the last song of Rafi Sb that starts with ‘ऊ’, and not yet posted on our blog. Just made it by cat’s whiskers. Otherwise, I would have been expressing regrets, just like for ‘ई’. 🙂
‘Miss Bombay’ from 1957 is quite well known and familiar. Majority of its songs are well heard and available. But somehow this song was not. I tried, but with my limited efforts, I could not trace it online. So when I pulled it out to listen and prepare for posting, I was so pleasantly surprised to hear this wonderful and lively rendition. The entire team is from Punjab – the songwriter, the music director and both singers. Prem Dhawan (b. 1923) and Hansraj Behl (b.1916), both born in Ambala; Shamshad Begum (b. 1919) in Amritsar and Rafi Sb (b. 1924) in Kotla Sultan Singh – all places belong to the undivided Punjab of the pre-partition days.
Listening to this song makes one wonder yet once again, on the versatility of this peerless singer. Is he the same artist who has also rendered “Zindagi Bhar Gham Judaai Ka Mujhe Tadpaayega” and “Le Chala Jidhar Ye Dil Nikal Padey” from this very same film. Ah yes, he is.
And now listen to this cheeky song of naughty flirtation. The flavors of emotions just continue to blossom, and surprise, and then satiate – and then again make one search and listen for more.
