“Devar”(1947) is a movie that few people have heard about. This had an obscure cast cnsisting of names like Agha, Jyoti, Yashodra Katju, Khurshid, M. Kumar, Masood etc.
Here is a rare song from this obscure movie. This song is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewali. Lyricist of the song is not known. Music is composed by Gulshan Soofi.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song as well as on the movie itself.
With this song, “Devar”(1946) makes its debut in the blog.
Song-Saari duniya ko bhulaa…Mera balam harjaai (Devar)(1946) Singer-Zohrabai Ambalewaali, MD-Gulshan Soofi
Lyrics
saari duniya ko bhulaa aa aa
jiski ulfat ke liye
o o o o
waah ri taqdeer meri ee
wo bhi mere ae na huye
aa aa aa haan
mera balam harjaai
haan aan
mera balam harjaai
haaye main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee
o jee main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee
mera balam harjaai ee ee
aankh se aankh milaayee toone
kyun ji
aankh se aankh milaayee toone
kyun ji
man mein aag lagaaye toone
kyun ji
hato chhodo
bal kha na jaaye kalaayi
main baaz aayi
baaz aayi
mera balam harjaai
haan aan
mera balam harjaai
haaye main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee
o ji main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee
mera balam harjaai ee ee
meri jawaani ko pyaar sikhaa kar
meri jawaani ko pyaar sikhaa kar
bhole bhaale sainyya
ishq mein apne duniya basaa kar
kyun oon
aankh se aankh ladaayi
main baaz aayi
baaz aayi
mera balam harjaai
haan aan
mera balam harjaai
haaye main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee
o ji main to naina milaaye pachhtaayee

Atul ji,
First look at the title and then the mukhdaa line of this song, I am immediately reminded of the song “Baalam Harjaai, Ja Main To Aankh Mila Pachhtaayee” from the 1973 film ‘Taxi Driver’. Sound to be very close.
The missing word in the last antaraa should be ‘aankh’. Sounds as if the word was stretched in the middle, and the lines actually sound as
“kyun aaan. . .
. . .kh se aankh ladaai.”
