“Basera”(1950) was directed by Inaayat for Watan Pictures, Bombay. This obscure movie had Ramola, Hiralal, Veena Kumari, Roopmala, Chanda, Bhuda Advani etc in it.
Exact number of songs in this movie are not known. HFGK mentions six songs in this movie. Four of these songs had the voice of Mubarak Begam in them.
Here is the first song from “Basera”(1950) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Mubarak Begam. Sardar Ilhaam is the lyricist. Music is composed by M A Rauf Osmania.
Only the audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the picturisation. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable in the lyrics.
prem kahaani chhede jawaani
gaaye hai man geet milan ke
pyaar ka mausam rut hai suhaani
man mein basoongi saajan ke
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aashaaon ke geet sunaaoon
sapnon ka sansaar sajaaun
aashaaon ke geet sunaaoon
sapnon ka sansaar sajaaun
man mein madhur sangeet phira hai
teri chaahat ke gun gaaun
naate na tooten man ke
naate na tooten man ke
o o o o
o o o o
pawan chale aur aanchal dhhalke
aanchal dhhalke
in ankhiyaan se amrit chhalke
amrit chhalke
dil hai paraaye bas mein ??
nazren milaana sambhal sambhal ke
teekhhe baan hain nainan ke
teekhhe baan hain nainan ke
kiski nazar ne jaadoo kiya hai
kiski nazar ne jaadoo kiya hai
kisne mera man moh liya hai
kisne mera man moh liya hai
kaun mere hidray mein basa hai
labon pe hardam piya piya hai
labon pe hardam piya piya hai
saathhi hain ham jeewan ke
saathhi hain ham jeewan ke
saathhi jeewan ke
saathhi jeewan ke
saathhi jeewan ke
saathhi hain ham jeewan ke
saathhi hain ham jeewan ke
About six seven years back I had switched on Radio Ceylon little late and
I heard the last lines of this song – ‘saathhi hain ham jeewan ke’. I was enchanted by the voice and since luckily I had announcer Jyoti Parmar’s phone number, I called her then and there, and she promised to play it again, specially for me, on the next Wednesday.
She sounds so similar to Suraiyya, that it was hard to convince even our Bakshis Singhji that it was Mubarak Begum.
