During my routine searching of songs online I came across this film title ‘Dhamki-1945’. And since there had been a film with this same title in 1973 which has already made an entry on the blog, this falls under one of my activities of bringing ‘films with similar titles’ to the blog (so far for the films released before 1980).
Today we will listen to a song from the 1945 ‘Dhamki’ (and not spelled as Dhamkee) which was directed by Ravindra Dave. This film is a presentation by Pancholi Art Pictures of Lahore, which was a pioneering film company in North India, that was set up by Dalsukh Pancholi. Very less information about this movie is available on net and from the information available I can gather that the cast of this film included Ragini, Al Nisar, Smriti, Ajmal, GN Butt, Kalawati, Om Prakash and Ghulam Qadir.
There are nine songs in this film, which are all penned by DN Madhok ji. Music of this film is composed by Pandit Amarnath ji.
So far three songs of this film are available which have been uploaded by music lovers on YT and we are grateful to them for uploading these rare songs. Now, for a film, whose songs are rare and making an entry on the blog and more than one of its songs are available it is always difficult to select one of them to start with.
I have selected this song sung by Zeenat Begam for the debut entry of this film on the blog today.
Song – Dard e Mohabbat Aah Se Keh De (Dhamki)(1945) Singer – Zeenat Begum, Lyrics – DN Madhok, MD – Pt Amarnath
Lyrics
dard e mohabbat
aah se kah de
dil mein rahe aur
lab pe na aaye ae
dard e mohabbat
aah se kah de
dil mein rahe aur
lab pe na aaye
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
shiqwaa na kare
badnaam mohabbat na ho jaaye
dard e mohabbat
aah se kahde
dil mein rahe aur
lab pe na aaye
aaj ka jeena jeena hai
aao ji bhar ke pyaar karen
aaj ka jeena jeena hai
aao ji bhar ke pyaar karen
kal ka bharosa kaun kare
ek saans ka pher hai
aaye na aaye
kal ka bharosa kaun kare
ek saans ka pher hai
aaye na aaye
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
shiqwaa na kare
badnaam mohabbat na ho jaaye
dard e mohabbat
palkon mein ruk ke ik aansoo
sahmein sahmein bol uthha
palkon mein ruk ke ik aansoo
sahmein sahmein bol uthha
jis ne mohabbat ki duniya mein
bebas hokey ashq bahaaye
jis ne mohabbat ki duniya mein
bebas hokey ashq bahaaye
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
shikwaa na karen
badnaam mohabbat na ho jaaye
dard e mohabbat

Avinash ji, Atul ji,
In communication with Harish ji Raghuvanshi, he has specifically confirmed that the name of the director of this film is Ravindra Dave and not Ravindra Dubey. Apparently there is a misprint in the Geet Kosh (Vol II).
Harish ji has personally met Ravindra Dave some years ago. Ravindra ji was related to Dalshukh Pancholi (of Lahore). He was active in the Lahore film industry, and after the partition, he worked in the Hindi film industry as a director till the 1970s. After 1971, he also directed some Gujarati films.
I have now made the correction in the write up above.
Rgds
