Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 43
——————————————
NURSE (1943), also known as CHHOTI MAA, was produced under the banner of Ranjit Movietone and it was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The star cast included Khursheed, Arun Ahuja, Prabha, Anil Kumar, Indira, Sheikh etc. From the title of the film, I thought that it was a heroine oriented film. But after reading the synopsis of the film given by Shri Arunkumar Deshmukh as comments in one of the songs of the film, it was clear that it was more of a family drama than the story on the life of a nurse. Let me recapitulate a gist of the story given by him in the Blog:

Deepak (Arun Ahuja), the only son of wealthy Seth Gopichand was married and had a son also. His hobby was writing poetry. He always regretted that his wife Usha (Prabha) did not take any interest in his poetry. Once, while on a business trip, he meets Kiran(Khurshid) who loves his poetry. Kiran is engaged to Raman. Kiran and Deepak enjoy each other’s company and fall in love without knowing that Deepak is married and Kiran is engaged.

Kiran’s father is forcing her to get married. So Kiran runs away from house to Deepak. There she learns the bitter truth. Being ashamed, she cannot go back to her father. So she becomes a nurse.

One day, Deepak’s son is admitted in her hospital and she gets friendly with the mother Usha, without knowing that she is Deepak’s wife. On the other hand Deepak also gets friendly with Raman without knowing that he is engaged to Kiran. One day they all meet at a time and truth dawns on all of them. Kiran decides to go back to her life and meets father telling him that she is ready for marriage. Deepak comes to her. She reprimands him and sends back. Kiran and Raman get married.

The film had 9 songs, all penned by D N Madhok. Two songs from the movie have been covered in the Blog in the past. As far as I know, there are two more songs of this movie that are available on YT. I have an mp3 clip of another song from the film which I could not locate on YT. I liked the song so much that I decided to prepare a video of the song for posting on the Blog.

So, here is the third song from the film NURSE (1943) to appear in the blog. This song-‘mere dil ki suno pukaar dil mera bol raha’ is sung by Khursheed Bano. The song is composed by Gyan Dutt.

What a lovely rendition of the song of ‘missing the loved ones’ !

Song-Mere dil ki suno pukaar (Nurse)(1943) Singer-Khursheed Bano, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-Gyan Dutt

Lyrics

Mere dil ki suno pukaaaar
mere dil ki suno pukaaaar
dil mera bol raha aa
mere dil ki suno pukaaaar
dil mera bol raha aa
mere dil ki

dhadke hai aur yaad karen hai
dhadke hai aur yaad karen hai
rain divas hi fariyaad kare hai
rain divas hi fariyaad kare hai
tum bin ho dildaar
tum bin ho dildaar
dil mera bol raha aa
mere dil ki suno pukaaaar
dil mera bol raha aa

saawan beetaa
tum nahin aaye
saawan beetaa
tum nahin aaye
bhaadon ke ab
baadal chhaaye
bhaadon ke ab
baadal chhaaye
yaad karo apne imraat (?)
yaad karo apne imraat (?)
dil mera bol raha aa
mere dil ki suno pukaar
dil mera bol raha aa
mere dil ki suno pukaaaar

I am benefiting by getting more and more songs of MY choice and taste, by your race (I do not know with whom?) to put maximum number of songs on this sweet blog.
Sada Aanand dete raho.
Thanks.

Bharatbhai,

I am happy that you like my choice of songs. But I am not in the race to post songs in the Blog in terms of numbers.

Nearest to Sadanand ji is me, but I am not in the race.
May be they want to coincide 400 of Sadanand ji and 100th of Sudhir ji at a time ?
However, looking at the delay and disinnterest of Sudhir ji and the speed of Sadanand ji, it wont be a wonder if he catches Sudhir ji unawares?

It should be 1000th and NOT 100th.
Regret error.

Arun ji,

I am cent per cent sure that none of the contributors to the Blog in whatever capacity are in number race. From my nearly 5 years of experience with Atul bandwagon, I can say with certainty that each of us wants to ensure in the Blog the songs/artists which they love and therefore want to post in the Blog. The numbers are consequential.

Ofcourse,Sadanand ji.
I was only trying to be funny. That’s all.
Thank God none of us are that type.
