People who are experienced Hindi movie watchers will know that songs and dance play the same role in these movies as the term “black hole” plays in Astronomy. Wherever in doubt, introduce a song and dance (or a black hole) as the case may be and your target audience is satisfied. 🙂
In Hindi movies, all characters look forward to watching such songs and dances. Villain and his henchmen appear particularly entertainment starved and are suckers for this art form. 🙂 No sooner have they kidnapped the hero/ heroine their relatives etc that they feel the urge to watch an item song. And we immediately find the well wishers of the captives turning up to meet the need of the baddies. Wise audience can see through their disguise, but the baddies cannot- much to the approval and catcalls of the audience. By the time the dance performance is over, the baddies are too drunk and the good guys get freed easily. 🙂
Here is just that kind of a villai’s den” item song from “Ghar Ghar Ki Baat”(1959). The song is sung by Lata. Mushtar Haidari (never heard of him) is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji.
The song is lip synced by Minu Mumtaz, who, alongwith her other female accomplices dancing a lavani folk dance are on a mission to rescue the good guys held captive by the villains. This folk song incidentally belonged to the native village of Lata Mangeshkar’s naani (maternal grandmother). She was so fond of this tune that she got at least three songs composed on this tune by different music directors . The first such song was in “Aasha”(1957) in the song Tu naa aaya aur hone lagi shaam re, followed by this song under discussion. A few years later, she got Laxmikant Pyarelal to compose a son on the same tune in “Mere Laal”(1966) in the song Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
With this delightful song, the seventh and final song from the movie, “Ghar Ghar Ki Baat”(1959) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog. Seeing that our YIPPEE master Pradeep Ragghunathan is hot on the heels of YIPPEED movies and thretens to catch up on all such movies, I had no option but to wake up from my lethargy and restart the stalled project of adding movies to the YIPPEED list. So watch for some renewed action in the blog on this blog where I try to keep ahead of the YIPPEE master. 🙂

Nagri nagri naach rahi hoon
saath liye baaraat
thhummak thhummak kar din beeta
ab aa gayi sar par raat

hey kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
more paaon mein aa gayi moch
raha na loch
zara to soch
ho raama ho o
kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
ho kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
main naachoon to baajaa baaje
laaj ke maare tabla baaje
main naachoon to baajaa baaje
saregamapa
laaj ke maare tabla baaje
tirkit tirkit ta
chham chham mori paayal baaje
ta ta thai tat ta

kaho main kab tak naachoon
ho kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
raas rang sab dekh rahe hain
taras na koi khaaye
baaj baaj kar ghunghroo toote
ab na naacha jaaye
raas rang sab dekh rahe hain
taras na koi khaaye
baaj baaj kar ghunghroo toote
ab na naacha jaaye
aise aise bedardi

aise aise bedardi
?? se raaam bachaaye
raam ho
kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
ho kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
bhes badal kar dwaare dwaare
naach rahi hai gori
chaal kapat chhupte nahin logon
sun lo batiyaan mori
bhes badal kar dwaare dwaare
naach rahi hai gori
chaal kapat chhupte nahin logon
sun lo batiyaan mori
duniya chaahe laakh chhupaaye
duniya chaahe laakh chhupaaye
duniya chaahe laakh chhupaaye
khul jaati hai chori raama ho
kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
ho kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
nagri nagri naach rahi hoon
saath liye baaraat
thhumak thhumak kar din beeta
ab aa gayi sar par raat
kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
he kaho main kab tak naachoon
kaho main kab tak naachoon
