Meri patli kamar lambe baal re

Posted on: May 7, 2009

Lata Mangeshkar was very fond of a folk song that belonged to the village of her grandmother. In 1950s, she asked C Ramchandra to create a song based on this folk song and C Ramchandra created a superb dance song in “Aasha” (1957) that was picturised on Vyjyanti Mala. This song, which was written by Rajinder Krishan was “tu na aaya aur hone lagi shaam re”.

One decade later, Lata asked Laxmikant pyarelal to create a song based on the same folk song. The result- this superb mujra song from “Mere Laal”.

It is interesting to note how different music directors can come up with different songs making use of the same source material.

Song-Meri patli kamar lambe baal re (Mere Lal) (1966) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
meri patli kamar lambe baal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
maine bindiya lagaayi isi saal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re

ankhiyan hamri kajre ki daliyaan
diya leke dhoondh aao sagri galiyaan
ankhiyan hamri kajre ki daliyaan
diya leke dhoondh aao sagri galiyaan
saare nagar me
saare nagar me ek hoon main
binaa laali ke honth mere laal re
ho binaa laali ke honth mere laal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
meri patli kamar lambe baal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re

khadi main pahne jhumka kangna
sona chaandi na chaahoon tumse sajna
khadi main pahne jhumka kangna
sona chaandi na chaahoon tumse sajna
tumse to sainya
tumse to sainya hai apna
yahi to is nazar ka sawaal re
saanwariya main
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re

chal nahin paaun jo tumri banke
ruk jaaye rain jab ghunghroo chhanke
chal nahin paaun jo tumri banke
ruk jaaye rain jab ghunghroo chhanke
chhuri kataari
chkuri kataari kuch bhi nahin
dharle bainyaa to dekh meri chaal re
ho dharle bainyaa to dekh meri chaal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
Meri patli kamar lambe baal re
maine bindiya lagaayi isi saal re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
saanwariya main thaadi rahoon ke chali jaaun re
