When I woke up early in the morning today (27 june 2016), I knew that it was a monday. 🙂 We all know how people feel about mondays. 🙂 They so look forward to going to the office, eager to add their mite to the GDP of the nation. 🙂
The nation also needs to get their daily dose of musical entertainment. 🙂 And when I opened my computer in the morning, I saw a google doodle of a person that looked familiar. When I tried to look closely, I realised that it was a cute sketch of R D Burman. Yes, google were honouring R D Burman by using a google doodle of R D Burman. How sweet and thoughtful of them.
So it goes without saying that we in this blog will try and discuss a few R D Burman compositions today.
when I looked chronologically at the list of R D compositions in the blog, I found that most of his earlier movies are already YIPPEED.
One of the earlier up YIPPEED movie is “Waaris”(1969). What fantastic songs this movie had !
On the occasion of R D Burman’s birth anniversary today, here is this superb Lata-Rafi duet from “Waaris”(1969). Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
The song is picturised on Jeetendra and Hema Malini, with Mehmood and Aruna Irani also seen dancing to this song on the sly. The song is lip synced mostly aroung a swimming pool and they even dive into the swimming pool in the last stanza. That makes this song the first occasion where Hema Malini is seen wearing a swimming costume. Wearing a swimming costume used to be a big deal for Indian actresses those days.
Prem Chopra, the ever present villain is watching the going on from a distance, a disapproving frown writ large on his face.
It appears that today also happens to be an important day for Avinash Scrapwala and his wife. Since he would not be more specific than that so let us extend our best wishes to Avinash Scrapwala and his wife for this important day in their lives. Indeed, this joyous song is a perfect song for such wishes. 🙂
Song-Lahra ke aaya hai jhonka bahaar ka (Waaris)(1969) Singers-Lata, Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
aai baat laralau
laralalalaaa
aai baatata
rarararara
raa
aai batararaar
raru
rarara
laalaaa
laalaalaallaalaa
lahra ke aaya hai
jhonka bahaar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa bhi ja aa
lahra ke aaya hai jhonka bahaar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka aa
aa bhi ja aa
ham to kab se khade dilruba
sun rahe tere dil ki sada
is kadar bekali yaa khuda
u u u u u u
lahra ke aaya hai jhonka bahaar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa bhi ja aa
nayi-nayi pehchaan ho gayi
pyaar ki raah aasaan ho gayi
ho gaya ek ab raasta
hamsafar ik mujhe mil gaya aa aa
ab kismat se maangoon main kya
u u u u u u
lahra ke aaya hai jhonka bahaar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa bhi ja aa
jahaan-jahaan dekhoon main tu hai
na tamanna na koi aarzoo hai
maine maangi thhi ik din dua
us dua mein asar aa gaya
mit gaya pyaar ka faasla
u u u u u u
lahra ke aaya hai jhonka bahaar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa bhi ja aa
tere mere dil ne kaha hai
pyaar hona thha hoke raha hai
maine bhoole se socha na thha
mere pehlu mein hai har toofaan
mera hamdam mera dilruba
u u u u u
u u u
lahra ke aya hai
jhonka bahar ka
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa bhi ja aa
aa bhi ja aa
aa bhi ja aa
aa bhi ja aa
aa bhi ja aa

On an interesting note–
The Music of this This Song was Copied
in the 2013 Film
SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA.
By ANU MALIK.
it was called
BABLI BADMAASH HAI.
The music for this song gave the movie a very Retro Feel,
just like the Music of RD in the pre 80’s.
(Like Nisha- Nisha- of Sanam Teri Kasam).
