Recently, on my request a collector friend of mine sent me four Asha’s song from 1971 film ‘Ek Thi Reeta’. Out of eleven songs from that film five are already covered in this musical blog. One by one, I will try to submit (Hari Ichchha permitting) these four Asha’s songs for posting starting from today. After that we will be short of two songs, which I still do not have.
Ek Thi Reeta, according to HFGK, released on 15th May 1971, was a colored Social film produced by International Films, Bombay and directed by ‘Ek Thi Ladki’ fame Roop K Shorey. The star cast consisted of Tanuja, Vinod Mehra, Raheman, I S Johar, Manmohan Krishna, Daisy Irani, Lalita Chaterjee, Devika, Majnu, Madhavi etc. Fariyal appeared as a guest artist and the producer introduced two new faces, Pampi and Mona Malik.
Sarshar Sailani, Prem Jalandhari, Vikal Saketi, Anjaan and Naksh Layalpuri were five lyricists for those eleven songs. Jaidevji composed the music with Gyan Varma as his assistant.
The song under discussion has two main voices of Asha Bhosley and Sarla Kapur accompanied by a chorus. I am unable to differentiate between two main singer’s voices. (Can some Atulite?) From the Lyrics of Sarshar Sailani it seems that the song is based on North Indian folk song and the music creates rustic atmosphere of village belle’s fun and frolic. The beginnings seems to be a bathing scene, surmised from the words of the opening ‘saakhi’. Jaidev’s music here though, seems to ME, quite different from his usual sober style.

Bharat ji,
HFGK gives only dates of issue of Censor Certificates and NOT release dates.
15-5-1971 is the date on which the film got the Censor certificate. From one source, the film was released on 5th June 1971.
