I received my first copy of HFGK in February 2015 and after that it become my routine to go through it as and when possible and search for songs covered on the blog as well as songs that were yet to be covered and other interesting information of movies from the decade of 1971-80.
There I took up this series of ‘Bhoole Bisre Geet’ – ‘The decades of Seventies 1971-1980’ which is still going on, and obviously it will take a long time till we have all the availablesongs from this decadecovered on the blog.
Simultaneously, it just crossed my mind that I should on my part also try to contribute to ensure that at least all the songs of the first year of the decade i.e. 1971 are added to the blog and thus the ‘missing(or remaining) films of 1971’ are also being introduced on the blog as and when possible.
Four months ago, I received my second copy of HFGK which is Vol.III which covers movies from the decade of 1951-1960. I am going through this vast treasure of HFM and it is very interesting to know about films of that period and the songs therein. It’s really an altogether different experience to become aware of the movies and songs of that era and other interesting trivia about them.
Going through this treasure and the songs of that era is an amazing journey and an altogether different experience which cannot be expressed in words. We can only enjoy the music and savor this treasure, Just as the following lines in the today’s song says it …
Kya bataayein kya mazaa
Ye ae zindagi mein hai
Kya bataayein kya mazaa is
Ye ae zindagi mein hai
Maanas mein sangeet sargam
Zindagi mein hai
Maanas mein sangeet sargam
Zindagi mein hai …
Recently I tried to check for the films of the year 1951 which have already been introduced on the blog and films that are yet to make their entries on the blog.
I notice that out of the total of ninety seven films (talking of films released officially) of 1951, seventy-four movies have been introduced on the blog and twenty-three movies are yet to appear on the blog – including today’s one.
(Note: I would request readers and other members to correct me if I am wrong my my figures for the year)
I think that it is too early to use the term ‘missing films’ for all those that have not been introduced on the blog (of 1951), but then songs of some of these films are very rare and seem to be unavailable as of now and the possibility of getting all of them also seems to be quite low.
Our respected Sudhir ji has already taken up the task of introducing songs from ‘missing films of 1960s and the year 1961 has been taken care of so far.
Coming back to today’s post, today we introduce one more movie from the year 1951 on the blog and enjoy one of its songs. The movie is ‘Jeewan Taaraa’.
‘Jeewan Taaraa-1951’ was directed by Joseph Teliyeth (Junior) who also produced it for Citadel Film Corporation Ltd, Madras.
As mentioned in HFGK Vol-III ‘Jeewan Taaraa-1951’ was a ‘costume drama’ film.
Its star cast includes T.R.Mahalingam, T.R.Rajkumari, P.S.Veerappa, K.Sarangpani, C.V.Naygam, K.P.Kamatchi, C.V.V.Tirupathi, Somu, Swaminathan, T.P.Rajalakshami, V.Sushila, T.S.Jaya, Lalitha, and Padmini
It was passed by the Censor Board on 06.10.1951.
As per HFGK this movie had as many as eight songs in it. Lyrics for this movie were penned by G.S.Potdar and Prem Dhawan where they contributed five and three songs each respectively. Music for this movie was composed by as many as three composer viz. Vasant Desai, Chitragupt, and Shankar Rao Vyas where they contributed three, three and two songs respectively.
Thanking Javed Raja, who has uploaded few songs from this movie on ‘YouTube’; let us now enjoy the today’s song, which is a duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and G.M.Durrani. Lyrics for this song are by G.S.Potdar and music is composed by Shankar Rao Vyas.
I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs. Also at many places I have not been able to note down the words correctly, I would request readers to help us in adding the correct words there.
With this song lyricist G.S.Potdar as well as the the movie ‘Jeewan Taaraa-1951’ make their dubut on the blog today.

Kya bataayein kya mazaa
Ye ae zindagi mein hai
Maanas mein sangeet sargam
Zindagi mein hai ae
Maanas mein sangeet sargam

Chitchor se apne miliye ae
Gaaye koi dil mein
Chitchor se apne miliye ae
saahil paas aaye ae
Manjhdhaar naav jhoome
saahil paas aaye ae
Manjhdhaar naav jhoome
Kya bataayein kya mazaa ye zindagi mein hai
Beech raat jaag neend
Preet pankh khole
Beech raat jaag neend
Preet pankh khole
Dheere aake dheere
Dheere man se bole

Manjhdhaar mein mazaa hai ae
saahil paas aayen ae ae
Manjhdhaar mein mazaa hai

Avinash-ji, I am all praise for HFGK all five volumes. While I was in United States, I had the entire set, Leather bound and their first editions. Since I could not bring back to India (due to the weight restriction during travel), I presented them to my dear friend there, equally interested in old Hindi Music. The volume covers were little moist as few of my tear drops fell on them while parting with them.
After arriving in India (that is Bharat), I immediately reordered the set, as I can not live without them. Only one volume was the original edition the rest were all photo-copies. (wrongly called Xerox copies)
But, they are like Bible, Geeta or Quraan, kept handy on my table for quick referring them often.
