How many songs do we listen to during our lifetime? And how many of them do we actually remember? How many of them can we reel off or list out if asked to do so ?
It should lead to some interesting results if some reseach minded individual decides too carry our a research on the above topic.
The researcher may also like to go into details viz. how many songs out of all these songs are such songs that we remember almost verbatim.
The results of above study may turn out to be different for a group of ‘normal music lovers’ and for a control group of music lovers viz. ‘music lovers who are connected with a blog like ASAD’ or who are aware of HFGK and who know that the HFM has over 40K songs if calculated since 1930s to 1980s.
My own take on this matter is that the songs that we are exposed to throughout our life stays with us, either in the conscious part of our memory in the sub conscous part, depending on several factors, viz. how those songs have influenced us, etc.
Our of the songs that we are exposed to, we may find some songs motivating/ inspiring/ refreshing and we may actively seek out such songs to listen to. Keeping such songs with you and listening to them is one thing, which is not a challenge now a days. If one is a fan of ‘radio’ then finding one of your favourite song being broadcast on radio becomes a more rewarding experience because you cannot control which songs are going to be played on radio and so you do not know which song is going to be the next.
Sometimes some situations, incidences or some peculiar happenings in our lives may bring a song to our lips and we may start humming a song that would otherwise be lying dormant in our memory.
The song under discussion is one such song which I do not remember when I heard it last, but I found myself breaking into this song a couple of months back when I was staying at Khandwa (in a Hotel in the same area of ‘Gouri Kunj’).
I have neither watched this song nor its movie earlier. So I searched for this song, its movie and later on checked up with the blog to see if it has been posted here. I was pleasantly surprised to note that this song was not yet covered in the blog. It came as a pleasant surprise to me because it gave me the opportunity to share it.
So here is this wonderful song sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle from the 1960 movie – ‘Apna Haath Jagannaath’. This was the only song left over from the movie. So it gives me the additional bonus of being able to ensure that the movie gets YIPPEED with this song.
The lyrics of this song were written by Kaifi Azmi who penned all the eights songs (including today’s) of this movie and music is composed by S.D.Burman.

This movie was directed by Mohan Saigal for Delux Films, Bombay. Mohan Saigal was also the producer of this movie.
It had Kishore Kumar, Sayeeda Khan, Leela Chitnis, Nazir Hussain, Jagdeo, Nand Kishore, Savita Chatterjee, Baby Devika, Shivraj, Rashid Khan, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ramlal, Shyam Lal, Daya Devi, Narbada Shankar, Moolchand Kapoor, Ravi Kant, Uma Dutt, Prem and V.Gopal.
This movie was passed by censor board on 20.02.1960.
With this song,”Apna Haath Jagannaath”(1960) joins the ‘list of movies-all songs covered’. 🙂

though I have heard this song during its time, I had forgotten it completely. Yaad taja karane ke liye dhanyavaad.
