“Mehndi”(1947) was directed by Sibtain Fazli for Fazli Films, Bombay. The movie had Nargis, Begam Para, Murad, Ghori, Jillobai, Jaani babu, Protima Devi, Chacha Premi, Anwari, Zaki, Baby Shyama etc in it.
There were eight songs in this obscure movie. Here is the third song from “Mehndi”(1947) to appear in the blog. HFGK is silent about the identity of the singer. Uploader of this song has mentioned Zeenat Begam as the singer. Towards the end of the song, one can hear a male voice as well. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the identity of this male voice.
Sagar Nizami is the lyricist of this “remonstrating with the Almighty” genre of song. Music is composed by Ghulam Haider.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics of the song. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.

Lyrics
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de
qismat ke andhere mein nayi shama jala de
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de
kyun toone diya thha meri kashti ko sahaara
phir aa gaaya toofaan jo nazar aaya kinaara
kya khel hai teri kareemi ka bata de ae
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de
bhookhe jo nahin unpe karam aam hai tera
bhookhhon ke liye bhookh hi inaam hai tera
daata
daata hai tu bhookhon ki bhi taqdeer jaga de ae
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de
mehroom hain rahmat se teri bhookh ke maare
har saans pe lete hain ye phaakon ke sahaare
maula
maula yahi duniya hai to duniya ko mita de ae
Allah khata kya hai gareebon ki bata de

Indeed, the great poet in Sagar Nizami is pleading the cause of the poor with Allah! “Kareemi” is correct. It stands for generosity, and Sagar Saheb most likely had in mind one of the 99 names of Allah….Al -Kareem meaning The Generous. What happened to Your generosity, why did You give us a toofan when the kinaara was so near?
In most probability, the correct word instead of “inkaam” is “inaam”. The well-fed have your blessings but we starving have Your gift of hunger?
