“Stage Girl”(1947) was directed by S H Tharani for Asha Art Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Mehruniisa, Dilawar, Habeeb, Chandrika, Sheikh, Ranibala, Arvind, Razi, Samson etc in it.
This extremely obscure movie had exxtremely hard to find eight songs in it. Details of singers are not known for any of these songs. It is known that there were two lyricists in the movie, viz Shewan Rizvi and Hunar but distribution of songs among them is not known.
Here is the first song from “Stage Girl”(1947) to appear in the blog. This is a female solo song and the singer is not known. Lyricist is not known as mentioned above. Music is composed by A K Prem.
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the identity of the singer of this song.
I have failed in getting the lyrics of this song right at several places. I request our readers with keener ears to fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable.
With this song, “Stage Girl”(1947) makes its debut in the blog.
PS-Now I have come to know, thanks to information provided by Mr Jayraman Subramaniam, a renowned record collector, that this voice is that of Leela Warsi, and she has sung this song for Mehrunnissa, who plays Sarla in the movie. And that is the name given in the record and HFGK.

Last stanza is

aap uljha na karen jaa ke gareebaanon(?) se should read aap uljha na karen jaa(n) ke garaybaanon se.
Beloved [jaa(n)] is cautioning lover not to mess with her as chhed is not thheek. Garaybaan means collar. Holding your jaan’s garaybaan will invite trouble.
dhajjiyaan ud gayin khud?? ke gareebaanon(?) ki should read dhajjiyaan ud gayin khulkar ke garaybaanon ki.

My 2 cents in the lyrics:
1. ‘gareebaanon’ in the mukhda seems to be correct.
gareebaan= poor, alien, migrant
2.dhajjiyaan ud gayin khud ‘par’ ke gareebaanon ‘se’
3. I hear ‘haaye ‘khud ban’ na padee….
