“Nishaant”(1975) was produced by Mohan J. Bijlani and Freni Variava and directed by Shyam Benegal. This movie was written by playwright Vijay Tendulkar. The movie had Girish Karnad, Amrish Puri, Shabana Azmi , Anant Nag , Sadhu Meher, Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah ( making his debut).
This movie, which won critical acclaims as well as prestigious awards, is considered a landmark film made in India. This film was adjusted the best Film in Hindia in 1977 national film award. It competed in various international film festivals and it won Golden Plaque in the Chicago International Film Festival 1977.
The movie had two songs in it. One of the songs (the better known one) has been discussed in the past.
Here is the second and final song from “Nishaant”(1975) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Bhupinder Singh. The lyricist is Md Quli Qutub Shah. No, it he was not a contemporary lyricist but was someone who had lived some four centuries ago. He was the fifth Sultan of Qutubshahi dynasty of Golkonda. He ruled between 1580 to 1611 AD, and it was he who founded the city of Hyderabad (Deccan) during his reign. He was a scholar of Arabian, Persian and Telugu as well.
So, it is interesting to realise that a Hindi movie produced in 1975 has a song penned by the founder of Hyderabad. 🙂

The lyrics contains words that are difficult to understand as they were penned in a language prevalent four centuries ago. I have not been able to get the lyrics right to my satisfaction. I request our knowledgeable readers to point out errors in the lyrics and to suggest corrections as applicable.
