“Jyoti”(1969) was produced by A Devdas and directed by Dulal Guha for Chitra Mitra productions. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Nivedita, Aruna Irani, Abhi Bhattacharya, Tarun Bose, Moppet Soorja aka Sarika, Lalita Kumari, Jagdeep, Gopal Saigal, Pardesi, Shekhar Purohit etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. Two songs from the movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from the movie to appear in the blog.
This song is sung by Hemlata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.
Legend had it that Hemlata had gone to S D Burman’s residence to give audition. Her audition was taken by R D Burman. Suitablly impressed, R D Burman called his father to the audition room and both Burmans together witnessed her audition. Then the senior Burman decided that he would give Hemlata her initial break as a playback singer. That is how this song came into existence, which is the fiurst song of Hemlata as a playback singer.

Sri Ganti, a regular of this blog, is of the opinion that Ravindra Jain’s music is similar to S D Burman’s music. I find that this S D Burman composition does bear resemblance to Ravindra Jain’s music, who incidentally used Hemlata’s voice extensively in his compositions.
