Today, we come to the 25th post in this series wherein Mukesh’s association with various composers is discussed. Usually, the highlight of posts in such series is the listing of songs in a tabular form wherein all details can be studied/viewed at a glance. However, there are many composers for whom Mukesh sang only a handful of songs. In fact, for the last two posts, it was the case of a solitary song sung for Lachchiram – “Bigdi Mein Koi Poochhnewala Nahin Hota” and Nandu-Pyaare – “Kiski Dharti Kiska Gaam“.
I will be completing a hat-trick of sorts with this post wherein we take up Mukesh’s only song sung for composer Surinder Kohli.
Unlike the much familiar GS Kohli, not much is known about Surinder Kohli though he seems to have sizable work in Hindi and Punjabi films. Our blog has only two songs so far for the composer – “Tu Mera Ranjha, Main Teri Heer” from the film ‘Qasam’ (1976) and “Vekho Loko Khidan To Pehlon Taahniaan To Phul Jhad’de Ne” from the film ‘Shaheed e Azam Bhagat Singh’ (1974). The following brief biosketch is from an earlier post by our dear Arun ji.
Surinder Kohli was born in 1937 in Lahore. He was educated in Gaziabad-UP and came down to Bombay to become a singer, when he was just 25 yrs old. Nishi Kohli was his relative and with her help he got a break and he sang first time in ‘Gul e Bakavali’ . Subsequently he sang in some other films like ‘Ek Din ka Badshah’, ‘Toofani Takkar’, ‘Phool aur Insaan’, ‘Rifle Girl’, ‘Cricketer. etc. He gave his voice to songs from 11 filmds. When songs stopped coming he became a Music Director and gave music to C grade and dharmik films. His first film as a Music Director was ‘Phool Aur Insaan’ (1976). He gave music to some 20 insignificant films. When films stopped coming he turned to cutting devotional albums in various languages and at last, in this he was extremely successful. So far more than 40 of his albums have come in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujrat, Marathi, Kannada, Bhojpuri Oriya etc. He gave music with Lalit Sen, Arvind Jha etc.
Yet again, I have been prodded by Avinash ji stating that the lyrics of the song are ready and incidentally, its again a philosophical song by Mukesh.
The name of the film is “The Revenger” which according to Mukesh Geet Kosh (MGK) had its shooting started somewhere in 1973. The film was not released and as such not many details are available about the film on the net.
MGK which provides more information about the film states that it was produced by Garima Films Enterprises, Bombay and directed by VN Mangal who incidentally is also the lyricist for the five songs listed for this film in Geet Kosh. As per HFGK star cast of the movie lists the names of Harish Kumar, Shaili, Satyadeep, KN Singh, Manmohan, Krishna and Ramesh Malhotra.
This movie ‘The Revenger’ (UR) makes its debut on the blog with the today’s song.
Now, let us listen to yet another philosophical song sung by Mukesh.
Song – Honee Rahe Ho Kar (The Revenger)(UR) (1970s) Singer – Mukesh, Lyrics – VN Mangal, MD – Surinder Kohli
Lyrics (Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
honee rahe ho kar
koyee kya kare ro kar
karm ki batiyaan
tarey nahin taare ho raam
honee rahe ho kar
koyee kya kare ro kar
karm ki batiyaan
tarey nahin taare ho raam
ho o o
ho o
jeewan maran hai
maalik ki maayaa aa
kahaan saath deti hai ae
hardam wo kaayaa
sab kuchh samajh kar
moorakh hi rowey
tan ka ramaiya aa
jag nahin jaare ho ram
honee rahe ho kar
koyee kya kare ro kar
karm ki batiyaan
tarey nahin taare ho ram
mausam sukhon ke
mausam dukhon ke
jaaye na saawan
man ko bheego ke
maanav ki duniyaa
mangal khayaali
taaron ki chhatiyaan
barey naahin baare ho ram
jaane ye kyun hain
kaisaa hai melaa hai
bichhad kar musaafir
chalaa hai akelaa aa
jahaan din dhalegaa aa
manzil bhi hogi ee
chandaa bhi hogaa aa aa
phir tere dwaare ho ram
honee rahe ho kar
koyee kya kare ro kar
karm ki batiyaan
tarey nahin taare ho ram
tarey nahin taare ho ram
tarey nahin taare ho ram
tarey nahin taare ho ram
tarey nahin taare ho ram
