Hullo Atuldom

“Safed Jhooth” (1977) was directed by Basu Chatterjee (10 January 1920- 4 June 2020) & produced by Ashim Kumar for Matrichhaaya, Bombay. It had a cast of Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Mitthu Mukherjee, Deven Verma etc. with Pradeep Kumar, Amol Palekar & Vidya Sinha in guest appearances. Yogesh Gaur was the lyricist for songs composed by Shyamal Mitra. K.J. Yesudas, & Asha Bhonsle were the playback singers used. The film had four songs of which only one is posted on the blog five years back on the occasion of singer K.J. Yesudas’s birthday with a post by Avinashji.

The film had Vinod Mehra (Vinod Thakur) & Mitthu Mukherjee (Anitha Thakur) playing newly-weds. Vinod is employed at an office where Ashok Kumar (Baldev Raj Gulati) is his boss. Vinod’s application for a day off to get married is rejected. So, he just takes a morning off, gets his marriage registered & gets back to work. He then gives a story for taking his wife on a honeymoon. Unfortunately for him his boss also lands up at the same spot & Daak Bungalow. He finds Anitha Thakur there & takes it upon himself to be her guardian since she reminds him of his sister (Vidya Sinha). Anitha is unable to tell him that she is a married lady & has come there with her husband. Meantime, Vinod spends his time trying to wriggle out of the situation & hiding from his boss. He also sends his best friend (Amol Palekar) who is a local drama artiste to pose as Anitha’s brother and bring her out of the safe-care of Gulati. The whole film has many comical situations and everything is resolved in the end Gulati sends the couple on a honeymoon sponsored by him.

I have seen this film a long time ago. Neele ambar ke taley is a song that is still in public memory. There is one more Yesudas song in this film that was very melodious. We shall have that today to celebrate the singing legends 84th birthday. I don’t know the exact number of songs that this Ganagandharvan haas hung in Hindi. Today’s song would be his 69th on the blog. Here is wishing him good health and joy.

Also we shall thank Basu Chatterjee for all the entertaining films that he has left for his admirers to relish. He would have been 102.

Song-Tere mere liye taaron ke diye (Safed Jhoothh)(1977) Singer-Yesudas, Lyrics-Yogesh, MD-Shyamal Mitra

Lyrics

tere mere liye
taaron ke diye
ye raat le kar
kab se phire jaagi jaagi
tere mere liye
taaron ke diye
ye raat le kar
kab se phire jaagi jaagi
aao karo koi jatan
tere bina dharti gagan
lagte hain bairaagi

ye bahaaron ki dulhan
mausam ke hain saath magan
kaise kab hoga magar
tera mera madhur milan
kab talak tarsenge ye
pyaase pyaase mere nayan
aao karo koi jatan
tere bina dharti gagan
lagte hain bairaagi
tere mere liye
taaron ke diye
ye raat le kar
kab se phire jaagi jaagi

waqt aisa bhi kahin
aaye dushman pe nahi
saamne meet ho par
ski lage phir bhi kami
chaandni kaisi hai ye
jisne laga di hai agan
aao karo koi jatan
tere bina dharti gagan
lagte hain bairaagi
tere mere liye
taaron ke diye
ye raat le kar
kab se phire jaagi jaagi
