Hullo Atuldom

Before beginning this post, I googled to check out movies starring Sunil Dutt that has music by Laxmikant- Pyarelal. The reason for this search was to remember Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar (of the L-P duo) who passed away on 25th May 1998 & Sunil Dutt who left this mortal world on the same date in 2005. Like on previous occasions, the first result from Google was the 1967 hit ‘Milan’. Of course that is a movie that has long been YYIIPPEEEEd on the blog.
A hunt through the films starring Sunil Dutt helped me dig out a film that released in 1980.

“Yari Dushmani” (1980) was a movie directed by Sikandar Khanna and produced by Som Dutt for Nandi Arts. It had Reena Roy- Sunil Dutt- Amjad Khan in pivotal roles with Diljeet Kaur, Roopesh Kumar, Nandita Thakur, Bharat Bhushan, Rajendranath, Bhushan Tiwari, Janakidas, Tun Tun, Sunder, Sheikh, Maruti, Lalitha Kumari, Jagdish Raj, Raj Kishore, Keshav Rana, Rajan Haksar, Master Bittu, & Shakti Kapoor (the main antagonist, I think). Asit Sen, Mukri, Shiv Kumar, Dev Kumar, Gulshan Bawra have been credited as ‘Friendly appearance’ in the titles of the film; which I followed to write about the cast. (I think this was one of the first films of Shakti Kapoor).

Laxmikant- Pyarelal were the music directors of songs written by Rajinder Krishan. Mohd Rafi, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar were the playback singers used.

“Yari Dushmani” was the story of two boys- friends- who grow up on the streets of Bombay (now Mumbai). They indulge in petty activities like cleaning the windshield of cars at traffic signals etc. and also at lifting of minor change, purse etc. from the cars they clean. Their crimes multiply as they grow older, getting bolder every year. When they come to know about a diamond necklace, they plan to steal it together, which they do successfully. But they have a fallout when it comes to sharing the steal. That is how the ‘YARI’ turns to ‘DUSHMANI’.

This was a movie which came at a time when Sunil Dutt was about 50 years old. He looked smart & well maintained in the little that I saw of the film. In fact, he looked great even in his later films whether as father of the heroine in ‘Laila’ (1984) ‘Faasle’ (1985); the royal Rajput Bhavani Singh in ‘Kshatriya’ & ‘Parampara’ (both in 1993, interestingly his name was same in both the films); and his last film appearance which was in ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ in 2003 when he was 74.

A small bit of info about the producer of this film Som Dutt: he was Sunil Dutt’s brother who was launched by Sunil Dutt in 1968 through ‘Man Ke Meet’ with Vinod Khanna.

Today’s song has Sunil Dutt & Amjad Khan in disguise & Reena Roy is present as a dancer who is entertaining a gathering that has Janakidas & Asit Sen in the audience. This Laxmi-Pyare -Rajinder Krishan song is in the voices of Mohd Rafi & Asha Bhosle.

Lyrics

husn aur jawaani ke ae
khwaab dekhne waalon
ye ae soch lo zara ye bhi
khwaab khaak hote hain
apni apni kismat hai
apni apni himmat hai
har kisi ke daaman mein aen
kab gulaab hote hain

sambhal kar haseenon se
sambhal kar haseenon se
haan sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana aa
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana aa
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana

dil humen dene se inkaar nahin hai saahib
saahib
dil humen dene se inkaar nahin hai saahib
saahib
raaste mein koi deewaar nahin hai saahib
jis taraf dekhiye
lalchaayee huyi nazren
ek bhi aankh mein to pyaar nahin hai saahib
to hum bhi hain waise
to hum bhi hain waise waise
to hum bhi hain waise
to hum bhi hain waise
hai jaisa zamaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana

o o o o o
o o o
o o o
o o o
o o o
jaan dene ki tamanna hai humaare dil mein

aaha
jaan dene ki tamanna hai humaare dil mein
bas yahi soch ke hum aaye hain is mehfil mein

jaan dene ki tamanna hai humaare dil mein
ye hai dil
ye hai jigar
aur ye sar haazir hai
dekhna ye hai ki hai zor kisi qaatil mein

banaa lo nahin to
banaa lo nahin to
nahin to

banaa lo nahin to
banaa lo nahin to banoge nishaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana

zindagi kya aa hai
ik chhalaawa aa hai
har ghadi maut ka
bulaawa aa hai
peene waalon se maut darti hai
raasta chhod kar gujarti hai
rok le gardishen zamaane ki
ye hai ?? sharaabkhaane ki
aaj mat rokiyega peene se
dushmani keejiyegaa jeene se
sharbati aankhon se
wo cheez pilaa de saaqi
loriyaan deke jo mehfil ko
sulaa de saaqi

choom kar jaam
?? gale milta hai
apni kismat ka andhere mein kanwal khilta hai
chalo kar den khaali haan
chalo kar den khaali khaali
chalo kar de khaali haan
chalo kar den khaali kisi ka khazaana
chalo kar den khaali kisi ka khazaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana
sambhal kar haseenon se aankhen ladaana
kahin lootate lootate lut na jaana
