#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————————————
(4th August’2024- Kishore Kumar’s 95th birth anniversary)
Today 4th August is another big day for Hindi film-music lovers all over the world. It is the ninety-fifth birth anniversary of the versatile genius Kishore Kumar. He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa (now in Madhya Pradesh). Kishore Kumar left this world at the age of just fifty-eight on 13th Octorber 1987.
Much has already been written about Kishore Kumar on this blog. Details about Kishore Kumar’s musical journey have been shared in the blog in many articles over the years. Kishore Kumar’s career as well as his personal life and of course his singing and acting have been discussed in great details.
Kishore Kumar started his singing career with the 1948 movie ‘Ziddi’ where he had given playback for actor Dev Anand. This was the song “Marne Ki Duaayein Kyun Maangoon“. I was born in 1968 so that was twenty-years before I became a member of this planet :).
We are all aware that Kishore Kumar’s peak-time came during the end of 1960s, and Kishore Kumar ruled Hindi film music during the decade of seventies. Kishore Kumar’s voice was heard everywhere during 1970s. He sang for established and even non-established and struggling actors.. He was the voice for Dev Anand and that of Superstar Rajesh Khanna. I was a growing child in the seventies. So Kishore Kumar songs were bound to be heard by me during my growing up years.
As I grew up, I kept becoming acquainted with many Kishore Kumar songs. I started my collection of cassettes in the year 1985-1986. I was always looking for songs that had left their impression on my mind but were difficult to find. This period was peak-time for me as a music lover During this phase I was specifically looking for Rajesh Khanna songs. I had already started my working life in 1985. Listening to Hindi films songs and collecting cassettes – later on CDs etc – was a habit that continued even with passage of time.
Later, when I became associated with this blog in 2012 I started sharing lyrics in this blog; I tried to share Kishore Kumar songs on the blog that I had grown up with during my early days. My journey on this blog as a lyrics contributor began with a Kishore Kumar song viz “Pyaar Ka Badlaa Mujhe Dekho Kaisaa Milaa, Pyaar Ke Badle Mujhko Paisaa Milaa“.
After that beginning, I have continued sharing Kishore Kumar songs – mainly from the decade of 1970s. There are many Kishore Kumar songs from the eighties which are yet to be posted here, so locating such songs and sharing them here is another of my mission. Most Kishore Kumar songs from the sixties and before, have already got covered so my song contributions of Kishore Kumar songs from this era is quite low.
My focus has been towards Kishore Kumar songs from seventies or early eighties. I did not consciously pay attention to Kishore Kumar songs from his earlier years i.e. 1948 to 1960. One must be wondering if we still have some Kishore Kumar songs from these decades that are not yet covered. Yes, there are such songs.
In today’s post I am presenting one such song from the movie ‘Najariyaa’ (1952). This movie had made its debut on the blog on 03.01.2014. Our in-house encyclopedia Shri Arunkumar jee has already presented two songs from this movie with detailed posts. So far, three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog.
‘Najariyaa’ was directed by Murtaza Changezi for M & T Films, Bombay. It was produced by Sarfaraz. The cast of this movie had Geeta Bali, Sajjan, Begum Para, David, Mumtaz Ali, Radhakishan, Madan Puri, Haroon, Mangala, Heera Sawant, Bimla, Mohna, Gulnar, Basu, Balam, CL Shah, Munshi Khanjar, Afghan Sandow, Agha Jaan, Agha Ahmed, Nazeer Kashmiri, SN Ghosh, Vighnesh, Ramesh, Baby Rehana, Baby Ratan and others.
‘Najariyaa’ has ten songs penned by PL Santoshi. Music for this movie was composed by Bhola Shreshtha. The singers list for this movie include Kishore Kumar, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhonsle.
The voice of Kishore Kumar was used for the actor Sajjan in this movie, as mentioned by Shri Arunkumar jee in his posts. Kishore Kumar had two solos and two duet songs in this movie. One solo song and one duet song of Kishore Kumar from this movie has already been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the fourth song from this movie to appear here. This is the second solo song of Kishore Kumar from this movie.
Let us enjoy the today’s song now. It is another ‘husn’ and ‘ishq’ song where the ‘ishq’ wants to caution ‘husn’ that though it is ‘lajawaab’, ‘ishq’ too has a ‘good face’ 🙂 (‘pun & fun’ intended ) …

Song-Ajee maana ki aap ka jawaab naheen hai (Najariya)(1952) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, Md-Bhola Shreshtha
Lyrics
raseeli hain aankhen
gulaabi hain gaal
jo hum mar mitey to
hua kya kamaal
aji maana ki
aji maana ki aap ka jawaab nahin hai
par apni bhi surat kharaab nahin hai
aji maana ki aap ka jawaab nahin hai
par apni bhi soorat kharaab nahin hai
aji maana ki ee …
pehle zara baat meri sun to lein hazoor
zara sun lein hazoor
pehle zara baat meri sun to lein hazoor
sab ko hota hai apne husn pe guroor
apne husn pe garoor
par dil ko
aji dil ko
haan dil ko jalaana achchi baat nahin hai
aji maana ki
ajee maana ki aap ka jawaab nahin hai
par apni bhi surat kharaab naheen hai
ajee maana ki ee …
yoon
hum ko thukra ke chaley jaana nahin achcha
wo sun lein hon jahaan bhi
hum ko tadpaana aa aa aa
nahin achcha
hain aashiq magar
hain aashiq magar deewaane nahin
dil lagaane ke hain kam thhikaane nahin
o daraa dar daa daa daa
ho pa pa pa pa paa paa
arey hum ko
aji hum ko
haan
hum ko bhi unki parwaah nahin hai
aji maana ki
aji maana ki aap ka jawaab nahin hai
par apni bhi surat kharaab nahin hai
ajee maana ki ee …
achcha hua aa gayeen tum hum thhe beqaraar
hum thhe beqaraar
achcha hua aa gayeen tum hum thhe beqaraar
pyaar ke bukhaar ka dil ho gaya shikaar
ye dil ho gaya shikaar
kuchh aisa
aji aisaa
haan aisa ki ab koyi ilaaj naheen hai
aji maana ki ee
aji maana ki aap ka jawaab nahin hai
par apni bhi surat kharaab nahin hai
aji maana ki hi een een een
