Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –Post-1 (1981)
Almost two years have elapsed when I started a series on songs composed by Rahul Dev Burman in the decade of eighties (viz 1981 to 1990). The series had started with a song from the movie ‘Daulat-1981’ which was posted on 29th August’2021. The song presented in that post was ‘moti ho to baandh ke rakh doon’.
Out of estimated 1755 songs composed by R.D. Burman for Hindi films, 840 songs are already covered on the blog. As mentioned by me in my recent posts on R.D. Burman on the blog, we still have a long way to go before we are able to bring all ‘Pancham’ songs here on the blog. If one goes through the number of songs composed by Pancham in the ‘eighties’ the number is much more than the number of songs he composed during the previous decade viz1971-1980. (We will surely be going through the details about this in future posts under this series on the blog).
Today, with this post I am starting ‘Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2’ series on this blog. The song being discussion in this post is from the movie ‘Dhuaan-1981’.
“Dhuaan-1981” was directed by Gautam Guha for ‘Shree Sai, Bombay’. It was produced by Dulal Guha. The cast of this movie has Rakhee Gulzar, Ranjeeta, Mithun Chakravarty, Amjad Khan, Padma Khanna, Nandita Thakur, Aruna Irani, Asit Sen, Goga Kapoor, Rajan Haksar, Azad, Habib, Prakash Gill, Abhijeet Sen, Abhi Bhattacharya, P.R. Chatterjee, Amar Mukherjee, Mohmmad Ali, Mukhtar Ahmed, Ram Mehar, Haji Nawab, Anand Natekar, Kalla, Nirmal, Vinod Arora and others. This movie introduced actors Sharad Sharma and Sudhir Pande in it.
“Dhuaan-1981” was a ‘rahasya-pradhaan’ or ‘mystery-suspense-thriller’ movie. It has four songs . Lyrics for all the four songs are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The singer for the songs in this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar and Amit Kumar.

From the above list we can notice what a great ‘1981’ was for Pancham as he delivered some of his very best music in several of his movies released this year.
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Aruna Irani lips syncs the song on screen.Amjad Khan and others are also seen in the picturisation of this song. Mithun Chakravarty also enters on screen during this song and joins the dance performance. There are other seemingly familiar faces but I am not able to identify them. This song is a ‘club dance-song’ category song. However we can see some suspicious activities going in the background of this song. Since this movie is a ‘mystery’ movie we are not supposed to spill the beans in this first post itself. 🙂
Let us now enjoy this song which is nice song to listen to … the song bears ‘disco’ effects which was mandatory in songs being composed thoise days.

With this song this movie ‘Dhuaan-1981’ makes its debut on the blog and joins the already introduced ‘Dhuaan’ (1953) on the blog.
