Hullo Atuldom
“Kisna” (2005) was a movie produced & directed by Subhash Ghai. It’s story & dialogues were written by Subhash Ghai himself. He also collaborated with Sachin Bhowmick & Farrukh Dhondy on the screenplay for the film. Ismail Darbar & A. R. Rehman were the music directors used. The songs written by Javed Akhtar were sung by Ismail Darbar, Ayesha Darbar, Shailaja S., Sukhwinder Singh, Udit Narayan, Madhushree, Rakesh Pandit, Kailash Kher, Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Ustad Rashid Khan, an some more playback singers whose names I don’t recall. Saroj Khan was the choreographer.
The starcast list was also very long- Vivek Oberoi Isha Sharwani Antonia Bernath (being the love triangle). Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Yaspal Sharma, Zarina Wahab, Vivek Mushran, Shivaji Satam, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Rajat Kapoor, Ronit Roy Ashwini Kalsekar & Sushmita Sen were the rest of the cast.
The movie was a period drama with its storyline starting in 1930, continuing into 1947 when the protagonist (Vivek Oberoi as Kisna) has to make a choice between his feelings for Antonia (Catherine Beckett) and duty towards the country. He chooses his country & escorts Catherine to the British High Commission for her safe passage to England. The film ends in the present era when Kisna is shown to be a family man who has fulfilled his duties to wife & country. His last wish being that his ashes to be spread at Devprayag where his love for Catherine had blossomed. It is also shown that Catherine also has expressed a similar last wish.
The story had a lot of scope for song, dance (Isha Sharvani being an accomplished dancer) national fervour and drama.
“Kisna” is making its debut on the blog with this love song that is during the engagement of Kisna (“The Warrior Poet” was the tagline for the film) to Lakshmi (Isha Sharvani). We can see a lot of colour in the outfits worn by the ladies Zarina Wahab & Isha as also the picturesque Dev Bhoomi region of present day Uttarakhand (was it called Gharwal in pre-independence era?) The movie was largely filmed in Ranikhet of Uttarakhand. The song is in the voices of Udit Narayan & Alka Yagnik, and is composed by Ismail Darbar. It also shows Catherine wishing Kisna & Lakshmi guessing the true feelings behind the gesture.
With this song we are wishing Vivek Oberoi a very Happy Birthday. His father is actor Suresh Oberoi & his cousin Akshay Oberoi is also an actor. He was named Vivekananda at birth as his father & grandfather were followers of the monk. He shortened his name when he joined the entertainment industry as he felt that it would be embarrassing dancing & romancing on-screen with the respected monk’s name. He has appeared in a few South Indian language films too in the last few years.
A word about Isha Sharvani- her mother is the dancer Daksha Seth & father is the Australian musician Dev Issaro. She has appeared in a few Hindi, Malayalam & Tamil films but is more inclined towards dance and has learnt Kathak, Kalaripayattu & Odissi dance forms.

ek baat bata
ho ho ho o
ek baat bata
jab tu mujhko milti hai
har baar nayi lagti hai
kabhi behad sharmaati hai
kabhi bikul itraati hai
har baar yeh dil kehta hai
tu badli badli kyun hai
ik baat bata de mujhko
tu itni pagli kyun hai
jab tu mujhko milta hai
dil kaanpta hai hilta hai
kabhi rokta tu rasta hai
kabhi door se hi takta hai
kabhi mujhse tu kehta hai
yeh aanchal dhalka kyun hai
ik baat bata de mujhko
tu itna pagla kyun hai
