The ‘eleven-day’ long Ganesh Festival celebrations are coming to an end today on ‘anant chaturdashi’. This festival always bring backs many memories to me that are mainly associated of the various cultural programs, orchestras and ‘Marathi plays’ that used to the part of the celebrations during this festival in my childhood days. I have a big nostalgia of few songs too which were used to be played on loudspeakers during this festival. This year too when the ‘Ganesh festival’ started I was lost in those memories. I had also planned to share part of my nostalgia with some songs on the blog. However due to the ‘professional priorities’ I didn’t get much time.
Today being the ‘anant chaturdashi’ our employer had declared a holiday which give an opportunity for this write up (though in between the professional calls and work from home is continuing, as has become a trend since years now ).
I was looking for a ‘Ganesha song’ and come across this wonderful song from the movie “Sati Aur Bhagwaan-1982”. The alias title of this movie is ‘Haathhee Meraa Bhaai’. Since my childhood days I am very fascinated by the movies having Elephants in them. I have already mentioned it in one of my posts here. I am still excited whenever I watch the movie ‘Haathhee Mere Saathhee’. Then there is a movie ‘Safed Haathhee’ and ‘Maa-1976’ which I have watched and liked very much. The song sequence from the movie ‘Navrang-1959’ where Elephant dances is another instance which has been permanently embedded on my memory. And I still have to introduce one ‘elephant related song’ from a movie where ‘elephant’ is a central character on this blog.
For today we have this song praising the ‘Elephant God’ lord Ganesh where we can see Elephants performing the ‘Ganesh aarti’ in front of a ‘big Ganesh idol’ and Baby Pinki watching them. Today’s song is a background song. Today’s movie “Sati Aur Bhagwaan-1982” was directed by Shantilal Soni for ‘Nagdevta Films, Bombay’. Shantilal Soni was also the Producer of this movie and he was the writer of this movie too. “Sati Aur Bhagwaan-1982”is a ‘bhakti pradhaan’ or devotional genre movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.11.1982.
The cast of this movie includes Rita Bhaduri, Vijay Arora, Ranjeet Raj, Abhi Bhattacharya, Jayshree Gadkar, Dulari, Nalin Dave, Jayant Bhatt, Hitu Kanodia, Baby Pinky and Paintal. They were supported by Jayshree Vaghela, Hema Mehta, Jayendra Mishra, Kalpana, Krapadev Yagnik, and Bholuram (as Bhagwan Ganpati).
Dialogues of this movie were written by R. Priyadarshi, and editing was done by Harish P Pathare. This movie has eight songs (including one song in two parts). All the songs of this movie were written by Kavi Pradeep and music was composed by Usha Khanna. The singers for this movie, as mentioned in the titles of this movie, are Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, Chandrani Mukherjee, Dhiren Vyas and Suresh Wadkar. HFGK Vol-VI -1981-1985 mentions Usha Khanna’s name in the list of singers for this movie and it did not mention the name of the singer Dhiren Vyas in this list.
This movie ‘Sati Aur Bhagwaan-1982’ is making its debut on the blog today with this song which is sung by Dhiren Vyas. (I could not find any infoprmation about him).
Lyrics for the today’s song are by Kavi Pradeep and music is composed by Usha Khanna.
Let us now listen to this Ganesh aarti and bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa hoping to welcome him soon next year to shower his blessings on us (with laddoos, modaks, and lots of music, memories, joy, happiness and nostalgia (for people like me) 🙂 )
