Hullo Atuldom

Yash Raj Chopra (Yash Chopra) – born on 27th September 1932- was a producer/ director of Hindi films. He was the founding chairman of the film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films. He was the recipient of several awards, including 6 National Film Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards. He is considered among the best Hindi filmmakers, particularly known and admired for his romantic films with strong female leads. For his contributions to films, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.

Lata Mangeshkar – the “Queen of Melody”, “Nightingale of India”, and “Voice of the Millennium”- was born on 28th September 1929. She was also the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989), the Padma Bhushan (1969). She went on to receive the highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna in 2001. Of course, she was the receiver of various other awards like four as Filmfare Best Playback Singer -till 1969. She was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 & two special awards in 1994 & 2004. And various other big and small awards.

Yash Chopra began his career as assistant director to IS Johar and also to his brother BR Chopra before making his directorial debut in 1959 with ‘Dhool Ka Phool’. He followed it up with movies like ‘Dharmputra’ (1961) and ‘Waqt’ (1965). He started his own production company Yash raj Films in 1970. His first movie under this banner was ‘Daag’ (1973). His success story continued through the 1970s, 80s till 2012 (his death) with a few duds in between. In his later career, from 1993, he collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan and came up with ‘Darr’ (1993), ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge” (1995), ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ (1997), ‘Veer Zaara’ (2004), ‘Chak De India!’ (2008) etc. Shah Rukh Khan was also the main lead of ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’ (2012), Yash Chopra’s last film. After the release of this film, he had intended to hang-up his director’s boots and only concentrate on being a producer. But he couldn’t live his dream of a ‘retired life, and passed away before the film was completed (in October 2012).

Yash Chopra was known for his collaborations and the one that lasted his life-time (which is well-known) was with Lata Mangeshkar, possibly ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’ was the only Yash Chopra film where she didn’t hum a few lines. But they had joined hands in 1995 to produce India’s first singing reality show ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’ that was aired on Doordarshan. Lata Mangeshkar, Bhupen Hazarika, Manna Dey & Pandit Jasraj were the judges and (just to add information) Sunidhi Chauhan & Pradip Somasundaram were the winners.

I think it will be apt to have a song from a Yash Chopra film sung by Lata Mangeshkar for this post. From the wide choice available I have zeroed in on a song from ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ (1997). The film had music by Uttam Singh (who was in the industry since 1963 as assistant & arranger for all top music directors) & Anand Bakshi was the lyricist. Most of the songs were in the voices of Udit Narayan with one song where Hariharan got to sing alongside Lata Didi. Asha Bhosle was also heard in a song.

The blog has two songs from this movie posted earlier. Here is the next one. It happens as the opening titles are on and show many famous & not-so-famous couples like Geeta -Siddharth Kak, Yash-Hiroo Johar with Pamela and Yash Chopra coming on as the titles close. The song begins with the query “What is Love (mohabbat)”.

I need not give details about the cast as it is seen in the video of the song.

Remembering the two Dadasaheb Phalke Award winners on the 92nd birth anniversary one and 95th birth anniversary of the other.

kitne door door hon
hum dono ke raaste
mil jaate hain jo bane
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste

aaa aaaa aa aaaa
aaaa aaaa aaaa
aaaa aaaa aaaa
aaaa aaaa aaaa
aaaa aaaa aaaa

jaise dil hai dhadkan hai
ik dooje ke vaaste
jaise aankh hai darpan hai
ik dooje ke vaaste
jaise barkha saawan hai
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik sajni ik saajan hai
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste

aaaa aaaa
aa aaaaa
aaaa aaaa
aa aaaaa
aaaa aaaa
aa aaaaa
aaaaa aaaaa aa aaaaaa

us rabb ne jab dil diye
dil ke do tukde kiye
donon par ik naam likha

ik radha ik shaam likha
ab ye dil dhadakte hain
milte aur bichhte hain
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste
ik dooje ke vaaste

aaa aaaa aaaa aaaa
aaa aaaaaaa
aaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaaa
aaa aaaa aaaa aaaa

hum dono ik naam hain
do dil ik armaan hai
lekin ab is mod par
dil ke daaman chhod kar
waqt ka hai ye faisla
hum tum ho jaayen juda
maangen khusiyon ki dua
ik duje ke vaaste
maangen khusiyon ki dua
ik duje ke vaaste
ik duje ke vaaste
ik duje ke vaaste

aaaaa aaaa aaaaa aaaa
aaa aaaaaaa aaa
aaaaa aaaa aaaaa aaaa
aaa aaaaaaa aaa

ik duje ke vaaste
ik duje ke vaaste

Hindi script lyrics (Provided by Sudhir)
——————————————

आss आsss आs आsss
आsss आsss आsss
आsss आsss आsss

आsss आsss
आs आssss
आsss आsss
आs आssss
आsss आsss
आs आssss
आssss आssss आs आsssss

आss आsss आsss आsss
आss आssssss
आss आsss आsss आsss आssss
आss आsss आsss आsss
आss आssssss
आsss आss आss आsss आsss

आssss आsss आssss आsss
आss आssssss आss
आssss आsss आssss आsss
आss आssssss आss
