“Mohabbat Zindagi Hai” (1966) was produced by K. C. Gulati and directed by Jagdish Nirula for Roop Chaaya, Bombay. The movie had Dharmendra, Rajshree, Mehmood, Nazir Hussain, Chaand Usmani, Deven Verma, Badri Prasad, Sunder, Man Mohan, Madhavi, Kundan, Kesho(Keshav Rana), Parasram, Kirti aka Kirti Kumar, Raj Dewan, Dinanath, Johnny Whiskey, etc. O.P. Nayyar was the music director for songs written by S.H. Bihari. Mahendra Kapoor, Mohd. Rafi & Asha Bhosle were the playback singers used for the eight songs of the film, the following seven are on the blog:-

The movie was the story of Rajshree (as per what I have read on the internet) agreeing to marry Dharmendra who is a man sentenced to death. She does this so that she can fulfil the condition set by her late father for her to inherit his wealth. Complications arise when the death sentence is set aside and the husband decides to move in with her & fulfil his marital obligations creating chaos in her life.
With this post we have the last song from the film which has Mehmood prancing around with two ladies. Normally we associate a Mehmood song to be in the voice of either Mohd. Rafi or Manna Dey & occasionally in the voice of Kishore Kumar; specially in films of the 60s. This film was a deviation with Mehmood having two songs one in the voice of Mohd. Rafi & the other had Mahendra Kapoor’s playback.
We remember the (late) Mahendra Kapoor with this song- his 16th death anniversary was on 27th of September. He was born on 9th January 1934 in Amritsar, Punjab. In the five decades of his singing career his first major hit was the song ‘aadha hai chandrama raat aadhi’ from ‘Navrang’ of 1956 under C. Ramchandra’s music direction. His notable works were in films made by B.R. Chopra & Manoj kumar. Also, he sang the title song of the television serial ‘Mahabharat’ in 1988. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972 by the Govt. of India. He died of a heart attack at the age of 74 on 27th September 2008.
A word about Mehmood too. 29th September is the birth anniversary of Mehmood the actor, director, producer, writer & singer. He was born in 1932 to Mumtaz Ali who was a an actor in the films of the 1930s to 1974 with his last appearance being in the Mehmood starrer “Kunwara Baap”. Mehmood was one of the eight children of Mumtaz Ali. He took to acting at a young age to help out the family financially. He himself had seven children of which Lucky Ali went on to become a singer after initially trying his hand at acting. One of Mehmood’s brother- Anwar Ali- paired with Mehmood in “Bombay To Goa” (1972). It is said that, at one point in his career, the characters he played in films, were more appreciated, as compared to the hero’s, by the audiences which had many lead actors shy away from films starring Mehmood. He would have been 92 this year.
