Mukesh and his Co-Singers –11

Having covered the songs of Mukesh under the composition of Usha Khanna, I was always curious to list the duets of Usha Khanna and Mukesh.
No, it is not just picking up the duets from the table in the above post as they also sang under other composers; albeit quite a few songs.
I do not readily have the total number of songs that she sang for other composers and would request knowledgeable readers to contribute to the information. However, a much easier task pertinent to the post at hand is of course, the total duets of Mukesh and Usha Khanna. Hence, here is the list including the duets under her own composition.

There are a total of 6 duets as listed above and all are covered on the blog. Needless to say, the two singers have sung 3 duets under Usha Khanna herself, 2 under Kalyanji Anandji and one under Iqbal Qurishi. I was under the impression that at least one duet would be available for me to cover in this post. But, alas, that was not the case.
Interesting, there is an extremely rare Punjabi duet sung by both the singers under the composition of Hansraj Behl. For obvious reasons it cannot be covered on the blog here.
The rarity of the duet is the fact that Mukesh has given playback to Subash Ghai, the famous director who did a few roles as an actor earlier in his career.

RARE of the RAREST song of MUKESH sung for a rare punjabi film SHERNI along with USHA KHANNA ..under the music direction of HANSRAJ BEHAL .The movie SHERNI was rleased in 1973. SUBHASH GHAI started his career as hero with this movie along with RADHA SALOOJA as heroine along with bollywood stars PREM NATH , KARAN DEWAN and KAMINI KAUSHAL. The super hero of punjabi movies RAVINDER KAPOOR first time appeared in NEGATIVE ROLE in this film .SUNDER , GOPAL SAIGAL , TUN TUN , and new comer MEHAR MITTAL were in comic roles.
From the comments, it appears that this was quite a popular song of its days. The magic in the voice of Mukesh was truly heavenly and no matter in what language he sang, the result was that of mass appeal, acceptance and popularity.
I began writing this post a few weeks back and when I realized there is a deadlock, I momentarily stopped proceeding with the post for 2-3 weeks. Dejection? Well, sort of.
But then, I realized that the show must go on and have come up with this table of Mukesh’s association with singer Usha Mangeshkar. I will not go into the career of Usha Mangeshkar as it is readily available on the net and must have also been covered on the blog.
Fortunately, for me, one duet of the combo is yet to be posted and is covered in this post.
Apart for the coincidence of their first names, there is an uncanny similarity in the number of duets that they sang together in HFM. Mukesh sang half a dozen duets with each of the two singers.

A glance at the table above and we come across quite familiar duets. 1 and 2 remain in active memory of HFM lovers. 4 of course is a remarkable triad akin to the duet from Saawan (1959).
Coming to today’s song, it is from an unreleased film “Maa” whose 6 songs were completed and released in 1968. But for some reason, the film never saw the light of the day. 3 songs have already been covered on the blog and I present here the duet of Mukesh and Usha Mangeshkar which is so soothing to the ears.
For my next post, I intend to take up the short singing career of one of the most talented actresses of Hindi cinema. She has sung about a dozen songs as well as written lyrics of about 4 songs. However, her versatility in acting is what she is famously known for. An actor par excellence, she has acted with almost all heroes of her time. Keep guessing.
