#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Remembrance Day – Sanjeev Kumar)
————————————-

Today 6th November’2024 is the fortieth ‘Remembrance Day’ of the legendary actor Sanjeev Kumar (09.07.1938 – 06.11.1985). His movies are very much the part of my growing years. Movie watching people like me who were born in the end-sixties or early seventies cannot forget Sanjeev Kumar and his films. He was one of those rare actors whom everybody was a fan of. In our cricket playing group where we had juniors, seniors as well as classmates, whenever we used to discuss Hindi movies the movies of Sanjeev Kumar and his performance was always fondly discussed. He was also one of those actors whom we liked to giving stellar acting performances that left the audiences mesmerizing.

Today in remembrance of Sanjeev Kumar I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Imaan-1974’. I remember watching many movies of Sanjeev Kumar in my childhood and later as a grown-up boy e.g. movies like ‘Koshish’, ‘Aandhi’, ‘Rivaaj’, ‘Anaamikaa’, etc at the weekly screening of movies at the recreational club in our colony. Then there were movies like ‘Swarg Narak’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Trishul’, and ‘Shreemaan-Shreemati’, ‘Angoor’, ‘Hero’, ‘Vidhaataa’, ‘Khilona’, ‘Ye Jo Hai Zindagi’, ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, and many others in theatres at our nearby city (Akola-Maharashtra). I may be forgetting many other movies to list here. There are also moives like ‘Mausam’ which I get to watch on TV in later years.

However, I vividly remember that I had not watched this movie during those years, and never got to watch it in all these years till recently when I watched it on a video sharing platform.

“Imaan-1974” was directed by Padmanabh for ‘Gurudutt Films Combine, Bombay’. It is a movie from ‘social genre’. It was produced by Atmaram (Gurudutt’s brother). The cast of this movie includes Sanjeev Kumar, Leena Chandavarkar, Bhagwan, Anwar Hussain, Satyen Kappu, Keshto Mukherjee, Murad, Krishnakant, Bhushan Tiwari, Viju Khote, Mohan Choti, Asha Potdar, Aarti, Johny Walker, Rajan Kapoor, Shivraj, Radheshyam, Narmada Shankar, Ramlal, Darshan, Mamaji, Nazeer Kashmiri, Kedar Sehgal and others. This movie has five songs written by Anand Bakshi which were composed to music by R.D. Burman. The singers for the songs in this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey.

“Imaan-1974” is a nice movie to watch at least for Sanjeev Kumar’s performance, where we have him playing the roles Madhav and Lakhan. Madhav is an honest and benevolent person while Lakhan is a crook. Madhav had to face a lot due to his helping nature and people betrayed him, while Lakhan can get done all he wants using muscle and money-power. Who wins and how is something which we have to watch in this movie!! The movie also pose questions regarding the punishment to those in the society who take disadvantage of honest peoples and ‘kill’ the ‘humanity’ in them.

As I said above, this is a nice movie to watch. The music of this movie is also nice, and we have some very good songs, if not great, in this movie. I guess that the songs didn’t get much popularity except the song arre kaise mitti ke maadho se paalaa padaa which has already been posted on the blog.

Today’s song is a drunkard song with a message (it is natural for many people to preach after getting drunk. 😊 They can also speak truth in the process or things universally ‘philosophical’. 😊

Let us now enjoy this wonderful composition of Pancham Da sung by Kishore Kumar to the words by Anand Bakshi, which will leave one rocking and humming the song. 😊

Our tributes to Harihar Bhai Jethalal Jariwala i.e. our Sanjeev Kumar!!!
