Hullo Atuldom
Jaspinder Narula- a singer who is trained in Punjabi music, bhajans & Sufiana compositions initially stayed away from film singing. Under advice from Kalyanji (of the Kalyanji Anandji duo) she moved to Bombay (now Mumbai). Kalyanji’s son & music director Viju Shah, Anu Malik & Nadeem Shravan gave her, her first songs in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’; ‘Virasat’ and ‘Judaai’ respectively. She has sung around 150-200 songs in Hindi films. She has a unique voice that has a ‘good throw’; in the same fashion as Usha Uthup or Shamshad Begum. I don’t know if I am able to express my thoughts, regarding the voice quality she has correctly, but hearing today’s song will, hopefully, help me put my point across.
The song is from the 1999 released “Arjun Pandit”. This film was directed by Rahul Rawail & produced by N.R. Pachisia. It was a remake of the 1995 Kannada film ‘Om’. It has Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla in the lead, with Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukesh Rishi, Annu Kapoor, Deepak Qazir, Yashpal Sharma, Shahbaz Khan, Shashi Sharma, Saurabh Shukla, Virendra Saxena, and others in the supporting cast. The Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi also appears in a stage song of the film. Sachin Khedekar had a guest appearance. The film had music by Dilip Sen- Sameer Sen and Javed Akhtar was the lyricist. Daler Mehndi, Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Kumar Sanu, Lalit Sen, Shankar Mahadevan, Abhijeet, Preethi Uttam & Jaspinder Narula were the playback singers used.
“Arjun Pandit” was the story of Arjun Dixit (Sunny Deol) a shy, god-loving professor from Haridwar who falls in love with Nisha (Juhi Chawla) who has joined the university to research on the Sanskrit language.
“Later, it is revealed that she had come there with mission to avenge her sister’s (who was Arjun’s student) death. Further, it is shown that the reason Arjun didn’t testify against the rapist & killer of Nisha’s sister was that he himself had been threatened with dire consequences for his own sister. In the course of the film, Arjun Dixit is imprisoned for killing the rapist, is released when the rapist’s (Shahbaz Khan) mother pardons him as she herself was not appreciating her son’s deeds.”
All of this is shown in flashback to establish the reasons behind Arjun Dixit’s coming to Mumbai, kidnapping Nisha, disrupting her wedding to a Doctor etc. The film ends with Nisha accepting her love for Arjun who goes back to being ‘Arjun Dixit.’
The 1990s had a spate of singers, who burst on the scene, through what was called Indie-Pop. Our song today, shows the making of one such video. We have Juhi Chawla as a model featuring in the music video.
Incidentally, 13th November was the birthday of Juhi Chawla. Let us wish the beautiful ex-Miss India 1984, who also won the Best Costume award at Miss Universe ’84, with this post.
We wish Jaspinder Narula on her 54th birthday today.

tumhen kya khabar
mere dil mein bhi
koi meethhi meethhi see aag hai
mere tanbadan ko ye lagtaa hai
jaise das rahaa koi naag hai
mujhe theek se ye pataa nahin
ki main raah kiskee hoon dekhtee
koi aayegaa koi aayegaa
mere dil kaa ab yahee raag hai
ek din to koi aayega
jo rang naya laayega
wo aayegaa to badlega samaan
shola sa koi bhadkega
dil zor zor dhadkega
machlega jo dil mein koi armaan aan
o dungar upar dungari re uspe naache mor
dungar upar dungari re uspe naache mor
aayega ek na ek din to mere dil kaa chor hey
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
dungar upar dungari re uspe nache mor
dungar upar dungari re uspe naache mor
mere saare deewaane karte hain dekho shor hey
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro

gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
gheredaar ghaaghro
lachchhedaar chundadi
