“Dharm Patni-1953” was directed by Ramchandra Thakur for Harishchandra Pictures. It was produced by Harishchandra Rao. It had Nirupa Roy, Mahipal, Moti Sagar, Durga Khote, Yashodhara Katju, Neeroo, Mona, Kumar and Gope, Bhagwan Das, Dalpat, Eruch Tarapore, Hamid Majnu, Dewaskar, Maqbool, Deepak Naidu, Parvati Bai, Anwari, Vijaybala and R.S. Diwan. Actor Bhagwan made a guest appearance in this movie and he was mentioned in the titles of the movie as ‘The Great Guest Artist’.

Story & Dialogues of this movie was written by Dhananjay and Screenplay was written by Darshan. Editing of this movie was done by Baburao Barodkar.

This movie has six songs which were written by Bharat Vyas (four songs) and Shewan Rizvi (two songs). Music for this movie as composed by Jamal Sen. The playback singers for this movie are Madhubala Zaveri, Asha Bhonsle, Mubarak Begam and Sulochana Kadam. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 21.11.1953.

Here is a brief about this movie taken from online sources and adapted for this presentation. (I have not watched this movie yet, so I can’t say much about its other details).

It is about a woman who is shunned by her husband after marriage. When the community start to mock the woman about her being separated from her husband for over 4 years, her widowed mother, Ganga, goes to plead with the latter to take back her daughter. And when he refuses, she instructs her daughter to obey her husband at any and all costs and passes away. The woman moves in with her husband and his family, which includes his father, mother – a devotee of Sachidanand; and sister, who is married. Her husband makes it clear that he is not interested in any relationship with her, as he is involved with other woman, who he hopes to marry after their divorce, and gives her 3 months to pretend that they are married. The woman accepts this condition and soon takes charge of the family, fires wasteful servants, organizes the household, befriends her in-laws to finally get accepted by her husband.

During preparation for the song I find that the video of the movie is has recently (couple of months back) been made available on a video sharing platform on internet. But it seems that the songs have been edited out from the online version. I am today presenting a song sung by Sulochana Kadam from this movie which I guess is picturised on Yashodhara Katju (hope I am correct) with Gope also present in the picturisation of this song. I am concluding this from the partial video clip available of this song which takes place at the end of this movie. Here the first stanza of this song is played at the end of the movie.

Two songs from this movie ‘Dharm Patni-1953’ have been presented on the blog earlier. Let us now enjoy this song sung by Sulochana Kadam from this movie ‘Dharm Patni-1953’. This is the only song sung by her in this movie.
