#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————-
Today I present the second song from the movie ‘Mutthi Bhar Chaawal’ (1975). This movie had made its debut on the blog on 31.03.2015, wherein I had presented the first song from this movie. I remember well that, in 2015, only one song from this movie was available on internet, however now all songs from this movie are available (but in audio format only).
‘Mutthi Bhar Chaawal’ was directed by Surendra Shailaj for Satyam Shivam Sundaram Movies and is a ‘social film’. This movie seems to be an obscure type of movie and I guess that its’ video is not available on internet. The film is produced by Rakesh Chandra. The story is written by Hari Narayan Chattopadhyay. The screenplay is written by Mohafiz Haider and the dialogues are penned by Rahi Masoom Raza.
As per Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980) the star cast of this movie includes Mallika Sarabhai, Rakesh Pande, and Jayashri T, Gajanan Jagirdar, Purnima, Chandrashekhar, Lily Chakravarti, Satyen Kappu, Bramhachari, Neelu Phule, Shefali, Mirza Musharraf, Anup Kumar, Usha, Mohammad Ali, Master Rajesh, Vivek, Jagdish Raj, Ram Bhai (debutant) and others. The film was passed by Censor Board on 26.02.1975.
The story of this film is about Asha (role played by Mallika Sarabhai), a young lady who lives in a slum hutment, with her family that consists of a drunkard father, a bed ridden mother and two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. To support her family, she is involved in the smuggling of rice for a gangster Narayan. She delivers smuggled rice to the occupants of posh houses in nearby localities. She meets with a young man Ravi (role played by Rakesh Pandey), who is visiting his brother in Bombay. He is based in Delhi and is a writer.
One day, Ravi saves Asha from the police when she is caught with smuggled rice. The two come close to each other. But suddenly Ravi has to leave for Delhi on getting the news of his mother’s ill health. During his absence, misfortune befalls Asha. Her father loses his job and her mother passes away. For the sake of her family, she once again joins Narayan’s gang. In Delhi, Ravi is able to convince his mother about Asha, and plans to come to Bombay again.
What fate awaits the two – the booklet tells us to watch the film to know.
(Based on the synopsis given in the booklet of the film.)
The music of ‘Mutthi Bhar Chaawal’ was composed by Khayyam, while Jan Nisar Akhtar and Maya Govind penned two songs each for the total four songs of this movie. Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh have given their voices for the four songs of this movie. I would request knowledgeable readers who have more information on this, to throw light upon this movie.
I had earlier presented the song ‘Kaahe Paglee Barkha Chhaayi Tere In Do Nainan Mein’ sung by Mukesh which had lyrics by Jan Nisar Akhtar. Today I am presenting a song penned by Maya Govind and sung by Asha Bhonsle. Listening to this song we can easily guess that this song must be a ‘mujraa’ song in the movie. Only audio of this song is available.
[Author’s Note: It is found that a film by the name ‘Mutthi Bhar Chaawal’ was also made in Pakistan in 1978, based on the famous novel ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ written by Shri Rajinder Singh Bedi. Later, in 1986, a Hindi film was also made based on this novel, with the title ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’.]

Song-Hamen hukm thha gham uthhaanaa padegaa (Mutthi Bhar Chaawal)(1975) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Maya Govind, MD-Khayyam
Lyrics
hamein hukm tha..aa
hamein hukm tha
gham uthhaana padega aa
isi zid pe hum ne
jawaani luta di
jawaani luta di
hamein hukm tha
gham uthhaana padega..aa
isi zid pe hum ne
jawaani luta di..ee
jawaani luta di
raat ke ghor andhere mein yahaan aate ho
jaam peete ho pilaate ho
muskuraate ho
din mein sooraj ke ujaale se dara karte ho
paarsa* ban ke
zamaane ko thaga karte ho
bhookh ki aag ne hi
hum ko gunehgaar kiya
tumne vyopaar kiya
hum ne bhi vyopaar kiya
jafaaon pe teri..ee
jafaaon pe teri
na ilzaam aaye..ae
tumhaarey gunaahon pe
chilman gira di
jawaani luta di
tumhaarey gunaahon pe
chilman gira di
jawaani luta di
dharm ki aad mein hi
paap jawaan hai tera
har jawaan jism pe
gustaakh nazar ka dera
din mein sehra hai yahaan
raat lagey mele hain
bheed badhhti hi rahi
phir bhi hum akele hain
na koi ghar na sahaara
na mohabbat ki nazar
kaat daale hain ye mardon ne
hamaare do par
kahin kaanp uthhe na..aa
kahin kaanp uthhe na
haathon mein khanjar
yahi soch kar hum ne
gardan jhhuka di
gardan jhhuka di
