100th Birth Anniversary – Centenary year celebration
Yes, it is someone’s birthday today. Is this the day when one grows as old as one 100 years. Or the time has come to give the 100% of praise, 100% of prayers and 100% of love to the legendary singer, one and only Mohammed Rafi Sahab.
What does every Indian around the world, who revels in calling himself or herself Indian, sing on such occasions?

I went overboard in the first para above. Talking of giving one hundred percent of praise, prayers and love. But the fact of the matter is, we have nothing to give anyone. No capacity, that is not given by God. It is Allah who gives us, grants us, blesses us all, as he blessed Rafi Sahab with the voice, the humbleness, the praiseworthiness, the deserving of our prayers and love.

The readers may please pardon me for the above attempt, at a parody. ( I think it is a combination of two different asha’ar ).
The fact is, that I am totally hooked on the composition of Ravi from “Do Badan” since last few weeks. It is a sad ghazal, in a Ballad form and composed in the style of Waltz. Lately I have been listening to some of the non-filmy ghazals by Rafi Sahab. Renditions of classics, by Mirza Ghalib, Mir Taqi Mir and some by other poets. The chaska for shaayari is in the DNA, so you rub the lamp, poetry will come out of it, not jinn.
Some years ago, when I was writing posts regularly and most of them were Rafi songs, I had commented, if the songs will last till the 100th birth anniversary. So here we are, at the 100th year, with almost 40% Rafi songs yet to be discovered. By discovered, I mean posted in the blog.
I am also wondering where the other regulars are, and not so regulars, who would write posts on Rafi Sahab at least twice a year. Raja ji and Sudhir ji, are not writing their usual eloquent and heartfelt posts.
I have no grounds to complain as have myself written only sporadic posts this year, this being 4th. Pathetic, but the blog also is running on slow motion, with one song each day. I kept postponing the important post for the last few weeks, that something inspiring will come up, and I will pour my thoughts for the momentous day. But the last week has been quite crazy, with some unexpected developments. So, I am writing this post at the last moment.
May the Almighty Allah forgive us for our transgressions, acts of commission and omission. Allah is truly great and merciful. He gives us a ray of hope, as soon as his subjects are dejected and remain faithful and steadfast. Alhamdullillah.
Looking for birthday song, I found this small snippet, rendered by Rafi Sahab in the film “Naina” 1973. My favourite songs by Rafi sahab, are the ones which are without background music. So here is to mark the day the ‘adaayagi’ in traditional recital tune. Masha Allah.
May the voice of Rafi Sahab and the memory of his exceptional personality, be heard and remembered till the end of times.
