‘Merry Christmas’ to ALL!!!
“Merry Christmas” is a mystery thriller Tamil-Hindi bilingual film released in January 2024. This movie was earlier scheduled for a Christmas release in 2022 or 2023 but it get postponed several times. Directed by Sriram Raghavan this movie has Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi, along with Tinu Anand, Sanjay Kapoor, Ashwini Kalsekar, Luke Kenny, Vinay Pathak, Pari Maheshwari Sharma, Pratima Kazmi and others.
Radhika Apte, Sahil Vaid, and Gayathri did cameos in this movie. In the Tamil version some actors were replaced.
The Producers for this movie are Ramesh Taurani (Tips), Jaya Taurani, Sanjay Routray, Kewal Garg and Anish Vikramaditya. The story of this movie “Merry Christmas” is based on a French novel “Le Monte Charge’ by Frederic Dard. The editing of this movie was done by Pooja Ladha Surti and Madhu Neelakandan had done the cinematography. The lyrics for the songs in this movie are by Varun Grover and music is composed by Pritam. Arijit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shilpa Rao, Antra Mitra, Papon, Tushar Joshi and Shalmali Kholgade are the singers for the five songs in this movie.
Sources mention that the titles considered for this movie before “Merry Christmas” were “Raat Akelee Hai”, “Raat Ke Hamsafar” and “Baat Ek Raat Kee”. The story of this movie unfolds on the ‘Christmas eve’ or ‘Christmas Day’ its title was finally decided as “Merry Christmas”.
Shriram Raghavan has made a place for himself with his new noir action thrillers. He debuted with “Ek Haseenaa Thhee (2004)”, Followed with “Johny Gaddaar (2007)”, critically acclaimed “Agen Vinod (2012)”, “Badlaapur (2015)” and the multiple award-winning movie “Andhaadhun (2018)”. A FTII Graduate (Rajkumar Hirani was his batchmate), he is the brother of Shridhar Raghavan, writer of the popular tele- series ‘CID’ and the film ‘War-2019’. Shriram Raghavan wrote a few episodes of ‘CID’ and ‘Aahat’. He is the multiple award winner (like National, Filmfare, Star Screen, Zee, IIFA etc) – most of these for ‘Andhaadhun’. This movie also won the ‘Best Hindi Feature Film’ and ‘Best adapted screenplay’ at the 66th National Awards and Best Director Award at the 24th Star Screen and 20th IIFA Awards. This movie ‘Andhaadhun’ has won several accolades at Multiple International Film Festivals too. Interestingly his first National award was for his Diploma film at FTII which was ‘The Eight Column Affair’ (1987). This movie was edited by Rajkumar Hirani.
Vijay Sethupathi a huge star, producer in Tamil (Makkal Selvan), made his debut in Hindi Films with this movie ‘Merry Christmas’. It was the Tamil debut for Sriram Raghavan, Katrina Kaif and Pritam. Saif Ali Khan who is the favorite hero of Sriram Raghavan was the first choice as the hero of this movie. Beginning with minor roles Vijay Sethupathi went on to do negative roles (villainy roles) and final becoming a lead actor for a movie. Winner of several awards, including best supporting actor award at National Award for ‘Super Delux-2019’, best villain award at Tamilnadu state awards for ‘Sundarapandian-2012’, best actor Filmfare award for ‘Vikram Vedha-2017’ etc.
This song is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan (there is a remix version of this song sung by Ash King). With this song the movie ‘Merry Christmas-2024’ makes its debut on the blog today on 25 December 2024 on the day of Christmas. Incidentally this song was released exactly on the same day one years ago, viz on 25 December 2023. Here is wishing Merry Christmas to all the readers on this auspicious occasion.
