“Bewafaai-1985” was directed by R. Thyagarajan for ‘Devar Films, Madras’. It has Rajesh Khanna, Rajinikant, Tina Munim, Padmini Kolhapure, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Pran, Vijay Arora, Guru Bachan, Prem Kumar, Anand, H. Vijay Kumar, Raj Baldev Raj, Peelu Wadiya, Guddi, Babli and others. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 01.07.1985. This movie has as many as nine songs which were contributed by three lyricist viz. Indeewar (two songs), Farooque Kaiser (three songs), and Hasan Kamal (four songs). Music for “Bewafaai-1985” is composed by Bappi Lahiri. The singers for this movie include Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, and Lata Mangeshkar.
The voice of Asha Bhonsle appears in six out of the nine songs in this moviewWhereas Lata Mangeshkar has only one solo song in this movie.
Here is a brief about this movie taken from ‘Wikipedia’ (I have added the actor’s names to their character names in the movie in the bracket).
Asha (Tina Munim) has been in love with Ashok (Rajesh Khanna) since her childhood. But somehow she was never able to convey her feelings for him throughout her childhood and college days. Now Ashok works as an employee of her father Diwan Sardarilal (Pran). She becomes very possessive about him to the point where she cannot stand the thought of another woman then trying to woo him. The possessiveness becomes so strong that Asha beats up a woman Vinny (Meenakshi Sheshadri) over Ashok. She tries to be aware of Ashok’s whereabouts. Renu (Padmini Kolhapure) falls in love with Ashok, breaking Asha’s heart. She learns that Ashok has long taken care of Renu. Asha decides to meet Renu to teach her a lesson but when she finds that Renu is a mental patient and Ashok has been nursing her, she changes her heart and begins to assist Ashok in doing service to the mentally imbalanced Renu. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Ranveer (Rajinikant) shoots Ashok and leaves him mortally wounded.
This is the only movie where actor Rajesh Khanna and Rajinikant worked together. There is an interesting comment by a User on IMDB about this movie which is to be read in this context of Kaka & Rajini working together. The comment says …
this is a interesting different story with Rajesh Khanna with three heroines alone. This movie did not do well as its editing was poor and the music of Bappi Lahiri was not up to the mark. However it is a must see for the fans of Superstar Rajesh Khanna and Rajnikant. In the movie both their styles make it an interesting stuff to watch. It is a different type of movie – never made in India till date but thoroughly enjoyable because of the antics of the two Super Stars. A must see.(Edited)
Today 29th December 2024 is the eighty-second birth anniversary of Rajesh Khanna (29.12.2024-18.07.2012). On this occasion I am presenting the first song from this movie to appear on the blog. The song is picturised on Rajesh Khanna, Tina Munim and Padmini Kolhapure. This is a fast-paced composition by Bappi Lahiri and shot at some beautiful outdoor location. This song is a ‘train song’ too (though the train shots seem to be of foreign locations.). Lyrics for the song are by Farooque Kaiser. I think I had watched this movie 1985 at Akola but I am not sure of it now. I need to watch it now. 🙂
