# R.D. Burman’s Remembrance Anniversary #
——————————————————————–
Today 4th January 2025 is the 31th Remembrance Anniversary of the great music-director Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on 27th June 1939 and he passed away on 4th January 1994 at the age of just 54. Today we have paid our tributes to him by covering some of his compositions on this blog. So far, four posts have been appeared on this blog that have songs composed by R.D. Burman. This is the fifth and last post today as a tribute to the musical genius – Pancham.
Much has been written and discussed about the new innovative music that Pancham brought to Hindi Films and his using of western style music with contemporary and classical Indian Music. Debates still continue about some of his compositions which are tagged as ‘plagiarised’. All said and done, the fact remains that he was the ‘one’ who dared to do it, and he was the ‘one’ who used instruments that were not traditional instruments. He created music out of unusual items that cannot be considered music instruments. Music lovers lapped up these innovations.
I still vaguely remember when one of my uncles had this privilege to buy ‘record player’ and the various Pancham albums he had in his library. Pancham’s music lives on … those who are in touch with radio and radio listening on daily basis, and know about the various FM channels, know very well what Pancham’s music is how much the new generation love it and how it is listened to even today.
From what we know about Pancham, he came across as a foodie, a cook and even some sort of modern day fakeer.
I this post I am presenting a song where a fakeer is singing his heart out.
I had come across this song recently and like it very much. It is from the eighties. It is from ‘Jurrat-1989’.
“Jurrat-1989” was produced by Rajendra Kumar and it was directed by David Dhawan for ‘Aryan Films’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.12.1989. Rajendra Kumar had also wrote the screenplay of this movie. The cast of this movie has Shatrughan Sinha, Kumar Gaurav, Anita Raaj, Amala, Raj Kiran, Aruna Irani, Kiran Kumar, and Amrish Puri. They were supported by Om Shivpuri, Bharat Kapoor, Aakash Khurana, Tinu Anand, Roopesh Kumar, Sudhir Pandey, and others. This movie was written by K.K. Singh. The editing of this movie was done by David Dhawan who was also the director for this movie. This movie has five songs penned by Anand Bakshi and composed by Rahul Dev Burman.
I have not watched this movie, but from what some characters shown on screen in the beginning of the movie narrate to the audience, this movie seems to be dealing with ‘drug smuggling and drug menace in the society’. And, Yes, once again (after a long gap) I came across a movie whose titles has a dedication to the ‘police force of India’. This movie was also shot at Los Angeles a Hollywood music-director Arlon Ober had given the ‘theme music’ for this movie.
Today’s song is sung by Mohd Aziz and on it is lip synced by Tinu Anand (as seen in the video). I guess that in the movie this song appears in three parts. I have noted the lyrics as per the longer audio version available online. Lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by R.D. Burman.
Enjoy and get yourself immersed in this sufi composition from Pancham.

aage marzee rab kee
aage marzee ee ee rab kee ee

main galiyon kaa ek fakeeraa aa
maangoon khair main sab kee
aage marzee rab kee
jeewan paanee kaa relaa hai
ek hawaa kaa jhonkaa hai
ho o jeewan paanee kaa relaa hai

maangoon khair main sab kee
aage marzee rab kee
logon meraa naam kabeeraa
maangoon khair main sab kee
aage marzee rab kee
