#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

#Happy Birthday Yesudas #
——————————————

Today 10th January 2025 is the eighty-fifth birthday of Singer Yesudas (born on 10.01.1940). His voice is one of the special voices of the seventies which I love. I have given detailed account of the many songs sung by Yesudas and my memories associated with those songs in an earlier post.

Today on the occasion of Yesudas’ eighty-fifty birthday I am presenting a song from the seventies which is from the movie ‘Maan Abhimaan-1980’. Yesudas had sung two solo songs in this movie, both of which are great songs. One Yesudas songsong from the movie has already been covered on the blog on 10.01.2017.

“Maan Abhimaan-1980” was directed by Hiren Nag for ‘Rajshri Productions, Bombay’. It had Rameshwari, Raj Kiran, Shashi Puri, Kavita Kiran, C.S. Dubey, Jagirdar, Yunus Parvez, Sundar, Arun Kumar, Pardesi, Albela, Master Rajesh, Chandu Allahabadi, Brijendra Mohan and others. Amrish Puri, Iftekhar and Sulochana had a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.08.1980. Here is a brief about this movie which I had watched couple of months back on a video sharing platform on internet.

Mathura Prasad (Amrish Puri) and Thakur Sumer Singh (Iftekhar) are friends and partner in business. Sumer Singh trusts Mathura Prasad. But Mathura Prasad ditches him by doing fraud in the money matters and property of Sumer Singh leaving him destroyed. Mathura Prasad’s trusted Munim (C.S. Dubey) helps in creating a ‘rift’ between them and time to time provokes his master to buy the ‘haveli’ of Sumer Singh which is under mortgage. Sumer Singh is shocked and passes away leaving a daughter (Mallika) and her kid brother Somu (Master Rajesh) behind. They still stay in their ancestral (‘haveli’) house and did not want to leave the place. They are supported by Hari Kaka (Yunus Parvez, who, in my opinion, has a great performance in this movie.)

Mathura Prasad has a son Ajay (Raj Kiran) and a daughter Rekha. Ajay has finished his studies of accountancy in London, and he has returned to home now. Mathura Prasad wants him to start looking after his business so that he can relax now and let Ajay gradually take over all his responsibilities. On instance of Munim, Mathura Prasad gives him the first assignment to visit their ancestral village and their assets there. He suggests Ajay also visit ‘haveli’ which they intend to buy. On the way Ajay first meets Mallika’s kid brother and develop a friendship with him. The next day when he visits the haveli with Munim, Mallika treats him badly hinting of that their family is responsible for her father’s death. Mallika’s behaviour is beyond Ajay’s understanding. So, he decides to get to the root of the ‘truth’, overlooking his Munim’s continues ‘fuelling’ him against Mallika. In this process Ajay further develops the bond of friendship with Mallika’s kid brother Somu and tries to make peace with Mallika. But all his efforts meet with repeated rebuffs from Mallika. Ajay also tears out the papers of the ‘haveli’ which he bought from the mortgagee. He does all this to win the love of Mallika, but Mallika is not sure of her feelings as her ‘abhimaan’ prevents her every time. And, since she cannot forget about what Ajay’s father had done to her father. Finally, she reconciles and accepts the love of Ajay.

The song under discussion takes place when Ajay after repeated efforts to make peace with Malika is disappointed and gives vent to his feelings in this song when he is alone. Let us listen to this more well-known song from this movie ‘Maan Abhimaan-1980’. Lyrics and music is composed by Ravindra Jain.

Wishing K.J. Yesudas a very happy birthday and a healthy and peaceful life ahead !!!

Song-Ek but se mohabbat karke (Maan Abhimaan)(1980) Singer-Yesudas, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain

Lyrics

o ho o o
o ho ho o
o o ho o
ho ho ho o

ek but se mohabbat kar ke
ek but se mohabbat kar ke
maine yahee jaanaa hai ae
samjhaaye se jo naa samjhe
samjhaaye se jo naa samjhe
dil aisaa deewaanaa hai ae ae
ek but se mohabbat kar ke

khoobsoorat hai ae balaa kaa
aur balaa se kam naheen
us kaa gham jee ko lage to
jag kaa koi gham naheen
chaley paanv dilon pe rakh ke
chaley paanv dilon pe rakh ke
uskaa hee zamaanaa hai ae
ek but se mohabbat kar ke
maine yahee jaanaa hai ae
ek but se mohabbat kar ke
maine yahee jaanaa hai ae

phool champe kaa haseen behad
magar khushboo naheen
hai mere mehboob mein sab kuchh
wafaa kee boo naheen
kuchh bhee ho mujhe ghar apnaa
kuchh bhee ho mujhe ghar apnaa
us gul se sajaanaa hai ae
ek but se mohabbat kar ke
maine yahee jaanaa hai ae
samjhaaye se jo naa samjhe
samjhaaye se jo naa samjhe
dil aisaa deewaanaa hai ae ae
ek but se mohabbat kar ke
