This is my 1500th article on this Blog !
It’s difficult for me to believe that in a span of 148 months or 4440 days I wrote 1500 articles on one Blog alone. Articles written on other Blogs and sites are not included in this. Those are about 200. Add to it my 9 books already published (5 Solo and 4 co-authored). Over 500 film reviews and comments on this and other Blogs which are about 700 +. Being a methodical person, I have kept records of all these. Learning ABCD of work on Computers at the age of 70 years, I could do all this at this age is the Greatest Blessing of the Almighty. Thanks to Him !

Today’s century is the fastest one ! I thank ATUL ji, whose help, encouragement and support made all this possible. I also thank SUDHIR ji for his motivation and appreciation all these years. I thank all my ATULITE friends, present and past, as well as our readers who kept appreciating and encouraging through their comments, all these years.
Today’s song is from a social comedy film ” Duniya Gol Hai”-1955. It was produced by C. Ramchandra, directed-first time- by Om Prakash and the music was by C.Ramchandra. The cast of the film was Karan Dewan, Anita Guha, Kuldeep Kaur, Kumud Tripathi, Sundar, Om Prakash and others. There were as many as 13 Guest Artistes !
Comedy has been an inseparable part of our films, be it Silent or Talkie. Naturally, the rise of comedians was inevitable. Right from Dikshit and Ghory to Paintal,Deven Verma or Paresh Raval, there were many comedians. However, only some of them became successful like Dhiren Gangully, Dikshit- Ghory, Gope, Kesari, V.H.Desai, Noor Mohd. Charlie, Bhudo Advani, Mirza Musharraf, Master Vinayak, Damuanna Malvankar, the comic villains- Yaqub and Jeevan and then Kishore Kumar, Johnny Walker, Omprakash, I S Johar, Mukri, Sunder, Dhumal, Mehmood, Rajendranath etc.
There were lots of minor comedians like Maruti, Mohan Choti, Jagdeep, Tun Tun, Asit Sen, Ram Avtaar, Keshto Mukherjee, Agha, Janakidas, Radhakishen etc. There were a few comedians who became so big that films were made for them as central characters, like Charlie, Johnny Walker, Kishore Kumar, Mehmood and Omprakash etc. ( names are only indicative and not exhaustive).
Omprakash was mainly a comedian, but he had been a hero, villain and a character artiste too. Of course the major part of his career was as a Comedian. He was one of the most respected artists of his generation in the industry. For some time he floated a Film production company in collaboration with his close friend C. Ramchandra. When their films flopped, he simply dissolved the company and later produced films on his own and he directed them too. When his film Jahan Ara-64 flopped miserably, giving him a heavy monetary loss, he stopped producing films.
Omprakash was a lover of life, joy, jokes, playing cards and he was the happiest among his friends. Not many people know that the famous producer Pachhi ( Around the world etc) was his younger brother.
Omprakash’s first film was ‘Guru Ghantal’-37 where he worked uncredited. He next did a small role in Bombay Talkies film ‘Anjaan’-41, but his career started when Pancholi got him a role in film ‘Daasi’-44. He earned Rs 80 for this film.
Omprakash worked in 293 films and directed 4 films namely, Duniya Gol hai-55, Gateway of India-57, Kanhaiya-59 and Chacha Zindabad-59. He sang 5 songs in 4 films- Meena Bazar-50, Ladki-53, Bindiya-60 and Vardaan-74. HFGK mentions his name as a Lyricist for a song in the film Dost-54.
C.Ramchandra was his best friend. They together produced Duniya gol hai, Jhanjhar and Lakeeren. The trailer of Duniya Gol hai was more interesting than the film. In this trailer, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar come on the screen one after another and say-I have directed this film, so you must see it. Lastly Omprakash comes on screen and says,” Ye sab pagal hai. Picture to maine direct kee hai”. Anyway all the 3 films flopped despite good music. Later Omprakash alone produced films like Gateway of India, Chacha Zindabad, Sanjog and Jahan Ara. After Jahan Ara’s colossal losses he stopped producing films and converted his office into a Card Game centre for friends.
He lived in Union Park, Chembur, a suburb of Mumbai. He died at age 78 in Mumbai, India of a heart attack. The actor who was always so full of life was still full of life till just two days before his death. He knew he was not well. He knew he was suffering from various complications but he never gave up his zest for life till his heart betrayed him. He kept calling friends to play a game of Rummy or just chat. He had an office at the Roop Tara Studios which was only used for “Rummy sessions” and “chat sessions”. Then, some years ago, he shifted his office to the suburbs to make it more convenient for his friends. He attended this office regularly till his health started failing him. He was confined to his bungalow (next to Ashok Kumar’s bungalow). He suffered his first heart attack in his own bedroom. He was rushed to the Lilavati Hospital where he suffered a second heart attack and went into a coma from which he never came out. He was declared dead at 1.30 pm on February 21, 1998. The news spread fast and the industry was shocked and stunned because he was the kind of man who could not be easily associated with something so sombre and solemn like death.
Since this was his First film as a Director, as many as 13 actors worked in the film as “Guest Artistes” ! He was so popular that he had to say No to some more actors ready and eager to work as Guest Artistes in this film. Until this film, it was a sort of record. It may still be a record unbroken.
In the cast, you will find a name-Kumud Tripathi. At first, I thought he was an actress like Kumud Chhugani, but when I found out about him I liked him very much as a comedian.
In the film Jeevan Sathi-57, there were 5 Lyricists. One of them was Kumud Tripathi. He joined the industry to become a Lyricist ( like comedian Kanhaiyalal Chaturvedi) but ended up becoming a comedian.
During his struggling days in the early 50s, he was staying in Bandra’s slums along with Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar. He acted in 73 films. His first film as an actor was Nai Zindagi-1951 and his last film was Hum se badhkar kaun-98.
His one role I remember is from the film Apradhi Kaun-57, in which he had sung two songs also on the screen. After retirement from the films, he joined TV and did a memorable role as Guptaji ( owner of a General Store) in a famous serial of the 1986 period- Nukkad.
Today’s song is sung by Shamshad, Lata and Chorus. Enjoy this 70 year old song….

Lyrics
aankhon mein kaajal bhara
honthhon par hai paan
aaj ye kiske
qatl ka hota hai saamaan
ho o o
ye tirchhee nazar
ho o

ye tirchhee nazar
aur teekhhee adaa
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa jee
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa
baalon kee chamak
aankhon kee chamak
zulfon kee banaawat
kya kehnaa
zulfon kee banaawat kya kehna
zulfon kee banaawat kya kehna jee
zulfon kee banaawat kya kehna
nasheelee(?) aankh kaa
kya tu hai wo
boley jo sar chadh ke
kaleje par kisee ke haathh daale bhee to
badhh badhh ke
ho o o
ho o
aankhon mein hayaa
ho o
ho o o o o
ankhon mein hayaa
us par ye mazaa
mastee kee milaawat
kya kehnaa
mastee kee milaawat kya kehnaa
mastee kee milaawat kya kehnaa jee
mastee kee milaawat kya kehnaa
aa aa aa aa aa aa
kisee kaa aaj kis andaaz se
dekho wo jee lenge
samajhte hain khilauna dil ko
kehte hain yahee lenge
aa aa aa aa
madmaatee nazar
haan haan aan aan
madmaatee nazar
bal khaatee kamar
chitwan kee khinchaawat
kya kehnaa
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa jee
honthhon kee sajaawat kya kehnaa
