#the Decade of Forties – 1941 – 1950 #
————————————————————————
(Lyricist Kavi Pradeep-1)
—————————–
In this post I am presenting a song from the 1950 movie ‘Preet Ka Geet’. The lyricist for this song is Kavi Pradeep. With this post I am starting to share songs penned by Kavi Pradeep that are yet to be posted on the blog here. We will also be taking a look on the filmography of Kavi Pradeep year-wise,alongwith updated status of his number of lyrics for respective movies on the blog from the movie ‘Kangan-1939’ onwards. It was the first movie where Kavi Pradeep wrote the lyrics for a film.
“Preet Ka Geet-1950” was directed by Girish Trivedi for ‘Kalaakaar Chitra, Bombay’. The cast of this movie, as mentioned in Geet Kosh Vol-II, are Sulochana Chatterjee, Prem Adeeb, Gulab, Shashikala, Cuckoo, Badri Prasad, Shyam Sundar, M. Khanjar, Urvashi and others. The music for this movie was composed by Shyam Babu Pathak. This movie has eleven songs written by Kavi Pradeep and Premi. Geet Kosh mentions lyricist Premi’s name for five songs. However it does not identify the songs written by Kavi Pradeep with his name and has left the lyricist name blank for the remaining six songs.
So far, six songs from “Preet Ka Geet-1950” have been posted on the blog. All the songs posted so far have been credited to lyricist Premi. Our senior member Shree Sudhir jee have well covered three Mukesh songs from this movie with his posts and the lyricist for all these three songs is also lyricist Premi. Geet Kosh mentions one more song having the voice of Mukesh, which seems to be incorrect. With the information available internet now, it seems that this song has two parts, where one part is attributed to unidentified male voice and in the second part Mukesh is mentioned as singer (but I don’t think his voice is there in this song). I would request knowledgeable readers (and our dear Mahesh jee) to throw more light on this please.
None of the earlier posts covering the songs of this movie gave the lyricist wise break-up for the songs. While going through the information about Kavi Pradeep’s filmography in the book ‘Kavi Pradeep Kaa Hindi Saahitya Mein Avdaan0 (by Dr Dinesh Chanda Awasthi)’, I came across the details of the songs penned by Kavi Pradeep for this movie. The following is the title of the four songs that Kavi Pradeep wrote for this movie.
| 1) | kholo kholo man ke dwaar muraaree re |
| 2) | kisee se ham naheen kahte… |
| 3) | main preet ka geet sunaaun … |
| 4) | dar dar khojein tujhko baalam … |
With five songs credited to lyricist Premi and the above four songs to Kavi Pradeep, lyricists for two songs are left unidentified in Geet Kosh. However one out of these two songs posted on the blog is credited to lyricist Premi already.
Here is the list of the songs in this movie with this updated information with the name of singer/s for the respective song.
| SNo. | Song Title | Singer/s | Lyricist |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Jiskee vaani mein bijlee…paayal boley | Geeta Dutt, Zohrabai, Mukesh(?), Chorus | Premi |
| 02 | Main hoon piyaa nadiyaa Zohrabai, Mukesh | Premi | |
| 03 | Sakhee ree aanaa mere man ke aangan mein aanaa | Mukesh | Premi |
| 04 | Kholo kholo man ke dwaar muraaree re | Geeta Roy/Dutt | Kavi Pradeep |
| 05 | Kisee se ham naheen kahte | Geeta Roy/Dutt | Kavi Pradeep |
| 06 | Ham to pachhtaaye sarkaar | Shamshad Begam | (not known* as per geet kosh) |
| 07 | Main preet ka geet sunaaun, sunaaun kaise | Geeta Roy/Dutt | Kavi Pradeep |
| 08 | Ek taraf jal rahaa deepak | Geeta Dutt, Zohrabai, Mukesh, | Premi |
| 09 | Dar dar khojein tujhko baalam mere nainaa baawre | Geeta Roy/Dutt | Kavi Pradeep |
| 10 | Jisey ham yaad karte hain | Mukesh | Premi |
| 11 | Dil kaa sheeshaa choor huaa | Ameerbai Karnataki | Premi (not known* as per geet kosh) |
Today I present the seventh song from this movie on the blog. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt and its music is composed by Shyam Babu Pathak. Lyricist for this song is Kavi Pradeep. (I would request Shree Atul jee to kindly correct the lyricist name for the song kholo kholo man ke dwaar muraaree re as Kavi Pradeep and add the corrected tags please. I would also request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
Let us now listen to this song …

Dear Avinash Ji
Yes, we discussed songs of this film earlier, and yes, there is a mismatch of information for one of the songs. You have rightly indicated that the song of this film listed in the GK vol II as “Jiski Vaani Mein Bijli…Paayal Bole Re…” does not have the voice of Mukesh in the song.
The correct beginning of the song, after the initial verse in the voice of an unidentified male singer, is “Jhananan Jhananan Jhann Paayal Bole Re”.
This is a 6 minutes song, available on two sides of record no. GE 8505. I have this as a single song in my collection.
One cannot hear the voice of Mukesh in this song.
The starting voice is an unidentified male voice – “Jiski Vaani Mein Bijli…”.
IMHO it sounds like Khan Mastaana.
Most likely it is a misprint in the Hindi Film Geet Kosh (HFGK) that includes Mukesh’s name in list of singers for this song.
It is interesting to note that the song appears in the first edition of the Mukesh Geet Kosh (MGK), but it has been removed from the second revised edition.
I know from my discussions with Harish Raghuvanshi ji (compiler of MGK) that the first edition of his compilation was more based on HFGK listings, and not on actual physical hearing of songs.
Whereas in the 2nd edition, he had made effort to listen to as many songs as possible.
Considering this instance, it seems that the song was removed from MGK II after aural confirmation. So we should consider this film ‘Preet Ka Geet’ to have 4 songs in the voice of Mukesh, and not 5.
Regards
Sudhir
