Hullo Atuldom
This is not planned as a “Blog Ten Year Challenge” post. It has just happened to be one.
Actually, I was humming a song most of yesterday, visited the blog to check if it had been posted yet and found a song from the same film had been posted exactly 10 years ago. I went a step further and found that there were 3 posts on “this date, that year”. Two of the three posts were by Sudhir ji; one post being his down-memory-lane of the Mumbai- Gangout that had a few Atulites meet in December of 2014. The post by Sudhir ji for the song “Boribunder Se Borivali Dekh Li Maine Gali Gali” was much more than a report of the gangout & the visit to Arunkumar Deshmukh ji’s residence by Atulites. It was also a nostalgia trip for readers who know of the various localities that he has mentioned in the post. I particularly like the (now invisible Atulite) Khyati Ben’s comment to the post. That post had Sudhir ji, talking of how he had stayed across the road from Arunkumarji’s residence, back in the late 1980s; but they were unaware of each other’s existence then, prompting (another invisible Atulite) Raja ji’s comment of how the post could well be the story of a Manmohan Desai film.
The following are the 3 posts of 26th April 2015.
“Rozaana Jiyen Rozaana Maren Teri Yaadon Mein Hum”
“Boribunder Se Borivali Dekh Li Maine Gali Gali”
“Chalo Bhool Jaayen Jahaan Ko Yahaan Do Ghadi
The post for the song “Chalo Bhool Jaayen Jahaan Ko Yahaan Do Ghadi” was by Raja ji and he spoke of how he was a fan of the Moushumi Chatterjee – Vinod Mehra pair. That was a post to wish Moushumi for her birthday. It also happened to be the 800th song of the music director duo Shankar Jaikishan. Since then we have added another 240 songs of the S-J duo to the blog, and the number now stands at 1040. Incidentally, 26th April is also the remembrance day of Shankar of the S-J duo.
Shankar Raghuvanshi died on 26th April 1987 at the age of 64, bringing down the curtains of the nearly 40 year old S-J era; which coincided with what was called the “best period for Hindi Film Music”. I have read somewhere that, hardly anyone from the film fraternity were informed about the death. Even the musicians who played in the S-J orchestra got to know of the news very late, by which time the cremation was already over. It was a rather quiet ending to the composer who had given us tons of hummable songs.
26th April is the date on which Moushumi Chatterjee was born in Calcutta into a family that hailed from Bankimpur in present-day Bangladesh. She was named Indira at birth and Indu was her pet-name. She was married to Jayanta Mukherjee (music director Hemant Kumar’s son) at a very young age as her paternal aunt wanted to see her marriage. Moushumi has joked about her age in one of her television appearances; that her year of birth was manipulated at the time of her marriage and that keeps people guessing about her correct age.
She made her debut as ‘Balika Badhu’ (in Bengali) in 1967. Her first Hindi film release was ‘Anuraag’ in 1972. And from then she was seen in many films with Vinod Mehra, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Rakesh Roshan being her frequent heroes. She was cast opposite Shashi Kapoor in a few films, and Amitabh Bachchan in only two films. In the later stages of her career, she acted in ‘Piku’ with Amitabh Bachchan playing her brother-in-law.
The song which triggered this post is “Do Jhoot Jiye Ek Sach Ke Liye”. It is from the 1975 released ‘Do Jhoot”. The film is directed by Jitu Thakar & produced by Sohanlal Kanwar. Shankar (of the S-J duo) was the music director for 6 songs that were written by MG Hashmat (3 songs), with one song each by Vishweshwar Sharma, Vithalbhai Patel, & Verma Malik. One of the songs is a two version song, making it 7 songs for the film.
Pran, Prem Chopra, Kamini Kaushal, Aruna Irani, Ajit, Master Raju, Sulochana, Raj Mehra, Kumari Naaz, Alka, Sunder, Tun Tun etc. played important supporting characters to Vinod Mehra and Moushumi’s characters of Sanjay & Vandana. Vandana becomes Lajwanti (an older woman) when she takes up a job in the household of Choudhary Pratap Rai (Pran). Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Usha Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Mohd Rafi & Nitin Mukesh were the playback singers used.
I have seen this film, a long time back, during the days of Doordarshan’s Saturday evening movie show. But, reading Raja ji’s post for the song “Chalo Bhool Jaayen Jahaan Ko Yahaan Do Ghadi” reminded me of the story of the film. In fact, in 1993, the movie ‘Dil Tera Aashiq’ with Anupam Kher-Madhuri Dixit-Salman Khan in the cast has the exact same storyline. Also, I have seen ‘Nadigan’ (1990), a Khusboo – Satyaraj starrer Tamil movie, which also has the same story with Satyaraj donning the grey beard. All these films were inspired by the film ‘Profesor’, the hit Shammi Kapoor starrer of 1962.
The following two songs of this film are already showcased on our blog.
“Chhatri Na Khol Ud Jaayegi”
“Chalo Bhool Jaayen Jahaan Ko Yahaan Do Ghadi“

(Part I)
kai baar sach bhi duniya mein
maha paap ban jaata hai
kabhi kabhi koi jhooth yahan
sach pe bhaari ho jaata hai
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
kis ajeeb mod par
aa gayi hai zindagi
kis ajeeb mod par
aa gayi hai zindagi
har taraf udaasiaan
bujhi bujhi hai roshni
na doobe aur na paar huye
maujon par roz muqaam kiye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
do dilon mein ho gaye
do jahaan ke faasle
do dilon mein ho gaye
do jahaan ke faasle
manzilon ke paas hi
lut gaye hain kaafile
jo kaam kisi dushman ke the
wo ulfat ne anjaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
(Part II)
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
ik kadam pada ghalat
sau kadam ghalat huye
ik kadam pada ghalat
sau kadam ghalat huye
ek jhooth ke yahaan
hazaar jhooth ban gaye
gairon ke kiye gunaahon ke
apne sar pe ilzaam liye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
na zubaan khul saki
na badal saka naseeb
na zubaan khul saki
na badal saka naseeb
zindagi ki chaah mein
maut aa gayi kareeb
haathon mein pehani hathkadiyaan
phaansi ke phande thaam liye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye
aur sach ne kya inaam diye
badnaam huye nakaam huye
na karne jaise kaam kiye
do jhooth jiye ik sach ke liye

(भाग I)
