Chhatri na khol ud jaayegi

Posted on: August 13, 2013

“Do Jhooth” (1975) was a Vinod Mehra- Mausami Chatterji starrer. This duo was the the Dharmendra-Hema Malini of poor producers and were quite a popular pair in small budget movies of those days.

The movie itself did not make much impact, but one song from this movie really caught the fancy of the public. This song was a duet song sung by Usha Mangeshkar and Kishore and it was picturised on Mausami Chatterji and Vinod Mehra of course.

This song was a rain song that went “chhatri na khol ud jaayegi”.

This song became surprisingly popular during its time. It was written by M G Hashmat. Music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan, or in reality only Shankar as Jaikishan had already died five years ago.

Lyrics

ae ae ae ae ae
chhatri na khol
kyun
ud jaayegi
aa
hawa tez hai
kholne de
naa
bheeg jaayenge
arre baarish tez hai
hey

chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi
hawa tez hai
arre kholne de
ae bheeg jaayenge
baarish tez hai

naaa naaa
chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi
hawa tez hai
ae kholne de
ae bheeg jaayenge
arre baarish tez hai
hey hey

chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi

bheege bheege aanchal mein bheegega tan
tan mein hai man
aur man mein agan
bheege bheege aanchal mein bheegega tan
tan mein hai man
aur man mein agan
aise jo bujhaani ho man ki agan
ambar ke baadalon ka paani hai kam

ho ho ho ho
oho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
aha haha aha
chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi
hawa tez hai
ae kholne de
ae bheeg jaayenge
arre baarish tez hai
hey hey

o o o
chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi

ek baar dekho meri aankhon mein sanam
pyaar aayega to ud jaayegi sharam
ho ek baar dekho meri aankhon mein sanam
pyaar aayega to ud jaayegi sharam

ho jhuki jhuki aankhon ki tumko kasam
mujhko sambhaalo
behke jaate hain kadam
aa zara paas to aao
aao na

nahin nahin
chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi
hawa tez hai
ae kholne de
arre bheeg jaayenge
baarish tez hai
hey hey

chhatri na khol
ud jaayegi
aa aaa
aa aaa
la la
laa laa
la la la

chhatri ki chhaaya mein chhupaaunga tumhe
achchi buri aankhon se bachaaunga tumhe
ho chhatri ki chhaaya mein chhupaaunga tumhe
achchi buri aankhon se bachaaunga tumhe

ho
itni si baat hai keh na paaye dil
sochti hoon kaise main bataaungi tumhe
itni si baat hai keh na paaye dil
sochti hoon kaise main bataaungi tumhe
keh do na
karo intezaar
aayega wo din
thhodi der hai
kab aayega
arre arre arre

arre arre arre arre
chhatri ud gayi
chhatri ud gayi
ud jaane de
bheeg jaayenge
he bheeg jaane de
baarish tez hai
hey bheeg jaane de
baarish tez hai
he bheeg jaane de
baarish tez hai

Waah!!! Easily one of my favourite songs of the 70s. 🙂
Brings back so many memories,. 🙂

And LOL at your calling Vinod Mehra-Moushumi, “poor producers’ Dharam-Hema combo”. To be honest, I preferred this combo. I always liked Moushumi, I had a crush on her in those days. 🙂 And Vinod Mehra was ok too. They did indeed act in a fair number of movies at that time.

This movie Do Jhoot was quite good actually. A bit like Professor, except that here the heroine disguises herself as an older woman.

Thanks for this song, Atul. It is just the type of 70s song I’d have liked to have posted. 🙂
