Today’s Kavi Pradeep song is from an unreleased movie ‘Ritu Vihaar-1954’. This movie was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi for ‘Asha Chitra’. Harish C. Thakkar was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie had Shyama, Trilok Kapoor, Mahipal, Rooplakshami, Rajkumar, Kamlesh Thakkar, Shobha Khote, Sundar and others.
‘Ritu Vihaar’ has five songs penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed by Jamal Sen. Geet Kosh Vol-III (1951-1960) mentions Asha Bhonsle as the singer for four songs whereas for one song the singer’s name is not mentioned. Geet Kosh also mentions that the recording of the songs for this movie was completed in December-1954.
As the title of this movie suggests this seem to be a movie based on the six seasons or ‘ritu’ we experience in our country. The list of the songs for this movie has a song each for every season as mentioned below.

We are aware that as per Hindu mythology and Hindu calendar we have six seasons spread over the year which is given as below:-
1) Vasant/Basant ritu (Spring) – Months of Chaitra and Vaishaakh of Hindu calendar (corresponding to the months of March-April of the Gregorian calendar)
2) Greeshm ritu (summer) – Months of Jyeshthha and Aashaadhh of Hindu calendar and May-June of Gregorian calendar.
3) Varshaa ritu (Monsoon) – Shraavan and Bhaadrapad of Hindu calendar and July and August of Gregorian calendar.
4) Sharad ritu (autumn) – Ashwin and Kaartik months of Hindu calendar and September and October months of Gregorian calendar.
5) Hemant ritu – Maargshirsha and Paush months of Hindu calendar and November and December months of Gregorian calendar. This is considered as pre-winter season too.
6) Shishir ritu (winter/season of cold) – Maagh and Phaalgun months of Hindu calendar and January and February months of Gregorian calendar.
The season of summer is in full swing now in our country, though we had some unseasonal rains and cyclone in many areas which have made a substantial damage to the crops. The temperatures were decreased for a short period of 7/10 days but again expected to be rising from in a day or two and that will continue till the monsoon takes over in all the parts of the country. Till then let us listen and enjoy this today’s song describing the characteristics of the ‘summer’ in the verses of Kavi Pradeep who is known for his poetry in pure Hindi vocabulary. Music for the today’s song is by Jamal Sen and the voice in the today’s song is by Asha Bhonsle. When I came across this movie title in Kavi Pradeep’s filmography I looked for its song, but could not find any songs. I thought that it will be impossible that the songs of this lesser heard movie would be available anywhere. But, luckily today I locate this song and what a song this is. We are forever grateful to the up-loader of this song who made it possible to reach to the music-lovers and listeners of HFM. It could be a great pleasure if other songs from this movie are made available too. I would request knowledgeable readers who might have listened to the other songs of this movie or read about this movie to throw more light on this movie and its songs please.
