Today’s movie ‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’. It had Dara Singh, Anita Guha, Mumtaz, Mahipal, Sumitra Devi, Shahu Modak, Randhawa, Tiwari, Sapru, B.M. Vyas, Amarnath, Vishwas Kunte, Ravi Kumar, Babu Raje, Radheshyam, Shribhagwan, Dubey, Anand Tiwari, Prithvi, Ajeet Soni, Pt. Iqbal, Pahalwan, Kingkong, Tiger Joginder Singh, Saudagar Singh, Swarn Singh, Rana Pratap Singh and many others.

While presenting a song from this movie earlier on this blog our senior Shree Sadanand Kamath jee has mentioned in detail about the story of this movie. I have taken some part of his text and giving here below to give a brief idea about this movie.

“‘Veer Bhimsen’ is a mythological film connected with the epic of Mahabharata from the viewpoint of Bhimsen. In Mahabharata, Bhimsen, the second among the five Pandav brothers, has been depicted as a man with extra-ordinary power, strength, unsatiable appetite and the devotion to his family. He is very protective of Draupadi. Those who insulted her, Bhimsen takes deadly revenge against them. At the same time, he follows the sound sense of justice towards those who are exploited. Although he remained under the shadow of his younger brother, Arjun, Bhimsen had an important role in Kurukshetra war in which he defeated Duryodhana and Dushasana in the last day of the war. There are many interesting episodes on the life of Bhimsen including those during the Kurukshetra war. The story of the film is based on some of such episodes in the epic of Mahabharata. There are many episodes in the film build around Bhimsen, like killing of demon Bakasura, king Jarasandha, killing of Kichaka, and his meeting with Lord Hanuman etc. After Pandavas return to Hastinapur, in the game of dice, Pandavas are defeated and are exiled in the forest for 12 years. During the period of exile, there are episodes concerning Bhimsen.”

‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’ has as many as ten songs penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed by C. Ramchandra. Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Kavi Pradeep are the playback singers for this movie.

This movie made its debut on the blog on 18th June 2009 with its song ‘main tum pe teer chalaa doon to kyaa karoge’ which falls under the category of ‘seduction song’. The second song was posted on 18th April 2010 which is ‘jhuk gayee re palak aayee ang mein lachak’ which again is a romantic-cum-seduction song, containing verses having pure Hindi words. The third song from this movie which was posted on the blog is a poignant song bidding farewell to warriors leaving for war of Kurukshetra. This song ‘aayee aaj bidaa kee belaa’ was posted on 10.01.2025, and it was presented by Shree Sadanand jee. The fourth song from this movie was posted recently on the blog on 13.05.2025 which also is a poignant song wherein the lyrics expressed the tragic aftermath of the war.

Today we present the fifth song from this movie which is a romantic song where the two lovers are expressing their thoughts and love for each other. The song is picturised on Mahipal and Anita Guha. They play the role of Abhimanyu and Uttara respectively in the movie.Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhonsle sing for Mahipal and Anita Guha respectively.

Kavi Pradeep was known for using textbook Hindi words of Sanskrit Origin, which can be seen in this song as well. The word ‘chakit’ (astonished?) is used to express how one felt after seeing the beauty for the first time (in this case Abhimanyu after watching Uttara in the movie). I do not recall coming across the word ‘chakit’ in any other Hindi film song. Knowledgeable readers can add their feedback in comments please.

This is a nice song to listen to, and it also falls in the category of ‘Chitrahaar song’.😊

Let us now listen to this song.

aa aa aa aa

aa aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa aa aa

jiske pyaar mein aathhon pahar main
rehtee hoon aaj kal gum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum

mujhe kyaa maaloom
jiske roop ko dekh ke ik din
main huaa thhaa chakit gumsum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum
mujhe kyaa maaloom

ik baat main tumse poochhoon
kyun lagtey ho pehchaane se ae
ik baat main tumse poochhoon
kyun lagtey ho pehchaane se

kabhee kabhee aisaa bhee hai hotaa
kaheen ankhiyaan lad jaane se
jisko dekh ke hee bikhraa thhaa
mere gaalon par kumkum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum

mujhe kyaa maaloom

mujhe jab se lubhaayaa kisee ne
rehtee hoon main khoyee khoyee

apnaa bhee to haal yahee hai
meree ankhiyon mein bhee hai koyee
jis jaadugar ne jagaa dee
meree paayal mein chhum chhum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum

mujhe kyaa maaloom

tum kaun ho ab to bataa do
achhchhaa na kisee ko sataanaa
tum kaun ho ab to bataa do
achhchhaa na kisee ko sataanaa
kabhee kabhee badaa pyaaraa lagtaa
apnon ko bhee tadpaanaa

jis chandramukhee kee chamak se
mere man kaa khilaa thhaa kusum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum
mujhe kyaa maaloom
jiske pyaar mein aathhon pahar main
rehtee hoon aaj kal gum
kyaa wohee to naheen ho tum

mujhe kyaa maaloom
