#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #

(Lyricist Kavi Pradeep-18)

“Harishchandra Taramati-1963” was directed by B.K. Adarsh for ‘Adarshlok, Bombay’. It was a movie of mythological genre. It had Prithviraj Kapoor, Jaimala, B.M. Vyas, Tiwari, P. Kailash, Naazi, Helen, Ulhas, Babu Raje, Nasreen, Saraswati, child artiste Babloo and others. Story of this movie was written by Pandit Madhur and Vishwanath Pandey and screenplay was written by Naval Mathur. Dialogue writing was by Adarsh himself. The editing of this movie was done by I.M. Kunnu. Geet Kosh mentions eight songs for this movie (including one three part song). As mentioned above Kavi Pradeep wrote all songs for this movie. Music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. “Harishchandra Taramati-1963” is the only movie where lyricist Kavi Pradeep and composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal came together and collaborated musically.
The playback signers for this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Hemant Kumar, Kavi Pradeep, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar and Mahendra Kapoor. (However the titles of the movie (in the available online version of the movie) didn’t mention the names of Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar and Mahendra Kapoor).
So far, five songs from this movie (including the one ‘three part’ song) have been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the sixth song from this movie which is a fast paced dance performance on Bela Bose and Helen. The song in this post is a mujra type of song where we can see ‘chandaal’ (Tiwari) (who is now the master of Raja Harishchandra whom he bought when the family sold themselves in order to pay donation to sage Vishwamitr). We can also see Raja Harishchandra (Prithviraj Kapoor) reaching there and singing some good preaching philosophical advice as the dancers end their performance.
Geet Kosh mentions seven songs for this movie on its page. However, if one carefully goes through the ‘addenda’ in Geet Kosh Vol-IV it mentions one more song in the voice of Mahendra Kapoor in this movie. I was looking for this song since last week when I presented a song from this movie. But this song is not a separate song and it is available in the movie. I found it available in the longer video versions of the Asha-Usha song. But none of the links of this longer version mentions the name of Mahendra Kapoor as singer. And as mentioned earlier his name is not even mentioned in the title of the movies. Moreover where the names of Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar are not mentioned either.
Let us now listen to this ‘two-in-one’ song. The fast paced version may remind readers of the song ‘uee maa uee maa ye kya ho gaya’ from the same composers, from the movie ‘Parasmani’ which was released in the same year 1963.
