Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-7 (1982)

We are celebrating the eighty-sixth birth anniversary of the genius music director Rahul Dev Burman today (27 June 2025) who was born on this day in the year 1939.
Any discussion about songs composed by Rahul Dev Burman is incomplete without discussing songs penned by Gulzar Saab. The association of Pancham viz. Pancham was assisting his father Sachin Dev Burman – ‘The Prince – Musician’, and Gulzar Saab was assisting the great director Bimal Roy. Both Gulzar and Pancham struggled together to gain foothold in their chosen individual fields.
When they established themselves and came together they created music and poetry that was breathtaking and out of this world.
The Pancham-Gulzar association started with ‘Parichay-1972’ and lasted till ‘Libaas-1991’.

Today we celebrate this great collaboration with a song penned by Gulzar Saab from the movie ‘Basera-1982’.
This movie was a ‘Rose Movies’ presentation. It was produced by Ramesh Behl and directed by Ramesh Talwar. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Poonam Dhillon, Ifthekhar, A.K. Hangal, Raj Kiran, Master Vikas, Pardesi, Raj Verama/Chandu, Baby Gazala, Salma, Kirit Vyas, Mrs. H.F. Mistry, Vishwanath, Sudha Chopra, Gulshan/Harjeet, Raj Bharti, Tikka Singh etc in it. This movie has six songs in it which are all penned by Gulzar. Gulzar Saab also wrote the screenplay, dialogues, and story of this movie. Music for this film was composed by R.D. Burman.
This song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. The song gets played in the background with a bereaved Rekha visible in the picturisation. Shashi Kapoor, Raakhi, Poonam Dhillon and Raj Kiran are also seen in the picturisation.
