Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-4 (1984)
(Celebrating Pancham’s 86th Birth Anniversary 27.06.2025 – 3)
——————————————————————————————————
Today we are celebrating Pancham’s music on the blog on his 86th birth anniversary. Whenever there is a discussion of songs composed by R D Burman and I recollect my oldest memories of Rahul Dev Burman’s songs I have a some stories and incidence to share that have never forgotten. I was born in February-1968. For Pancham that was the year of movies like ‘Abhilaashaa’ and ‘Padosan’. Songs of these movies would have started making waves by then. We know that the music of both the movies catapulted R D Burman to the top, so it is natural that the songs from these movies would have been played on Radio/loudspeakers all the time those days. That music must have been falling on my ears during my infancy 😊
It has been mentioned by me earlier that this following refrain from ‘Abhilasha’ is indelibly implanted in my brain:- …
‘He he he he he he
La la la la la la la la la la
pyaar hua hai jabse …
Whenever I listen to this song from ‘Abhilasha-1968’, I am thrilled, I get goose-bumps, its music makes me delighted and it takes back to the time when I was a kid and I was playing with an inflatable rainbow color beach ball, which my Father had brought for me…That is how our mind starts forming associations .
Then there is this song ‘deewaanaa mujhsaa naheen’ from the movie ‘Teesri Manzil’ which had came two years before I was born. But again, sometime later when I was born the elders from the family may have taken me to this movie or may be the music of this movie kept falling on my ears when I was still a child. This song has since then remained a pure nostalgia for me.
I vividly remember that one of my uncles had bought the LP Record player and the songs of these films were played on it repeatedly. Many years till I become to understand things I had this impression that the following ‘aalaap’ (if I can call it) is from the movie ‘Talaash-1968’ which was from the movie ‘Apnaa Desh-1972’.
veeraa
taraa taraa taraa, tara
taraa taraa taraa, tara
veeraa…
taraa taraa taraa, tara
taraa taraa taraa, tara
veeraa veeraa
taraa taraa taraa,
taraataraataraataraa taraaruu
(from the song ‘duniyaa mein logon ko’)
The other songs that still make me nostalgic from those years are ‘kaanchee re kaanchee re’ and ‘raampur kaa waasi hoon main’. That was music around me then when I was still a child and totally unaware of who created them and why😊 But I as grow up and started liking music it was then when I must have got to know the name of the music composer. I still remember how one afternoon in summer vacations in my childhood I was listening to ‘Ek Hi Film Ke Geet’ where the songs from the movie ‘Amarprem-1971’ were played and I was totally taken away by them. I just fell in love listening to the songs from this movie.
Later, as I became a fan of Rajesh Khanna the whole world of RD’s music opened for me. And I grow further with watching movies like ‘Aandhi’, ‘Kinaaraa’, ‘Mehboobaa’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Ham Kisise Kam Naheen’ etc and listening to the songs form this movie and the many more that keep coming in later years too. I remember that I did not like all those loud or fast-paced songs in my childhood, but later I grew addicted to them, especially to those composed by R.D. Burman.
For this post I have selected a fast-paced power packed song sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and R.D. Burman himself. This song is from the movie ‘Ek Se Bhaley Do-1985’ which was directed by S.V. Rajendra Singh for ‘Wardhaman Films, Bombay’. It was produced by K.D. Mehta. The cast of this movie includes Kumar Gaurav, Rati Agnihotri, Amjad Khan, Shammi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Parikshit Sahni, Monty, Ranjeet, Manmohan Krishna, Gurbachan, Mayur, Karishma, Guddi, Birbal, Rinku, Praveen Kumar, Shivraj, Mushtaq Khan, Wali Khan, Master Chaitanya, Master Rinku, Master Sagar, Master Ravi and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.05.1985. ‘Ek Se Bhaley Do-1985’ has five songs written by Anjaan and composed by R.D. Burman. The songs in this movie have been sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Anuradha Paudwal, Shailendra Singh, R.D. Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, and S.P. Balasubramaniam.
Let us now enjoy this song which is ‘musical feast’ wherein we find Shammi Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav, Rati Agnihotri, Amjad Khan and many others present in the picturisation of this song.
Enjoy!!!
