Mukesh and his Actors – 06
Navin Nischol was amongst the new breed of actors to grace the silver screen from the early 70’s. He made his debut with the film Sawan Bhadon (1970) in which he was paired with none other than Rekha who was also making her debut in Hindi films.
His popular films and even more popular songs are well known. Without going into the details of his films and his successful foray into television media, I direct readers to his wiki page where ample details are provided.
In this post, we shall deal with Mukesh’s playback for Navin Nischol. There are only 3 films in which Mukesh sang a total of 5 songs for him. Here is the table of their collaboration.
| MUKESH’s playback for NAVIN NISCHOL | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S. No | Name of the song | Movie (Year of release) | Co-singer (if any) | Composer | Lyricist |
| 1 | Ae baadal jhoom ke chal | Nadaan (1971) | Shankar Jaikishan | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
| 2 | Jeewan bhar dhoondhaa jisko | Nadaan (1971) | Shankar Jaikishan | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
| 3 | Mehnat hamaara jeewan | Nadaan (1971) | Chorus | Shankar Jaikishan | Hasrat Jaipuri |
| 4 | Kab Tak Chhupega Ae Jaane Jaana | Nirmaan (1974) | Laxmikant Pyarelal | Majrooh Sultanpuri | |
| 5 | Hum dono milke kaaghaz pe dil ke | Tumhari Kasam (1978) | Asha Bhonsle | Rajesh Roshan | Anand Bakshi |
Despite the tally of the combo being less than half a dozen, the popularity of the songs in the table is well known.
The first 3 songs from Nadaan (1971) are from a year in which the composers Shanker Jaikishan had as many as 18 films to their credit. It was also the year in which Jaikishan passed away untimely. All 3 songs (S. No 1 to 3) from this film are well known.
5 is probably the best-known song from the table; a duet with Asha Bhosale. Incidentally, I had mentioned this song in my post on Rajesh Roshan nearly 7 years back. Here is the post.
The last remaining song is at 4 and is covered in today’s post.
And, what a romantic song it is!
The film is Nirmaan (1974) produced by Deenanath Shastri and directed by Ravi Tandon. The cast included Navin Nischol, Anupama, Bindu, Anoop Kumar and others.
The song starts with a railway station in the background (of Anupama) and looks familiar though I am not able to make out the name of the station. As the song progresses, the beach and especially the shoreline tree’s location also look familiar. I request readers to identify the same.
Mukesh singing a romantic song for Navin Nischol who was known for such light-hearted songs makes this song livelier. And, yet again, it is the golden voice that makes the song special and pleasing to the ears.
Song-Kab tak chhupegaa ae jaane jaanaa(Nirmaan)(1974) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
maza to jab hai
dekhe zamaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
maza to jab hai
dekhe zamaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
tum mein kya hai
tumhen bhee naheen maaloom
pehlu rakhte tumhaare ang kitne
ban chaman kee ruton mein bhi na hoga
har ada mein chhupe hain rang jitne aen aen aen
kyun na ujaagar ho ye bahaaraan
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
muskuraa ke
uthhaao zara palken
zulf chehre pe udne do chaahe
aisee tasweer
khenchoo ke dunia
tumko dekhe mujhko saraahe ae ae
saare jahaan ko
kar de deewaanaa
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
maza to jab hai
dekhe zamaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara
kab tak chhupega
ae jaane jaana
roop tumhaara
pyaar hamaara

A quintessential soft, romantic Mukesh song typically picturised. Was wondering about Nivedita yesterday bcs I got hold of a Kannada ( translated from English, which, in turn, was translated from Bengali ) book on SDB and I came across the beautiful JYOTI LM, MD duet Soch ke ye gagan jhoome . I have always liked this song.

Dr,
Thanks for your comment.
The actress in this film is Anupama whom I have mentioned in the second last para.
Though she has sizeable number of films to her credit, most of them seem to be relatively unknown.

Mahesh ji, Thank you. I confused her with Nivedita.
