The festival of ‘Rakshaabandhan’ is being celebrated all over the country today (9 August 2025). It was mentioned by me in my earlier post today that this will also mark the end of the month of saawan in the northern parts of India. However in the southern parts including Central India the month of saawan will continue till the amaavasyaa falling on 23rd of August. We have been posting saawan songs ever since saawan commenced all over the country. Today we are ending this series here. So, in this post we have a raakhee song as this festival of ‘Rakshaabandhan’ is also associated with the month of saawan.
Celebration of ‘brother-sister love’ as a festival is unique to India and it has the fragrance of the soil of India. Therefore this song also falls under the category of ‘Desh Kee Mittee Kee Khushboo’.
The song I have selected for this post is from a Bhojpuri movie ‘Bihaari Baabu’ released in the year 1985. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 29.07.1985.
It was directed by Dilip Bose for Ramayan Chitra Combine, Bombay. Well-known actor of Hindi movies Shatrughan Sinha produced this movie and he also acted in it. The cast of this movie has Shatrughan Sinha, Kunal, Alpana Goswami, Rekha Sahay, Shakeela Majid, Manek Chaudhary, Dev Malhotra, Narayan Bhandari, Murlidhar, Ashok Pandey, Dineshkumar, Vijay Khare, Pyare Mohan Sahay, Rajbali Nanda, Satish Anand, Purobi Dutt, Noor Fatima, Ashok Sinha, Harish Babu, Vinod, Ajay Sinha, Bhupendra, Dayanand, Neelam, Uday, P. Prasad and others. Anita Raj and Tina Munim had a guest appearance in this movie.
With this movie actor Shatrughan Sinha stepped into Bhojpuri movies by producing this movie under his home production. This movie is said to be among the successful movies of Bhojpuri Cinema. The director of this movie Dilip Bose was already a top director of Bhojpuri films, with many successful films on his name. Chitragupt the well-known music composer for Hindi as well as Bhojpuri movies composed songs for this movie and the songs of this movie also become popular as usual for other Chitragupt movies. Anita Raj and Tina Munim’s guest appearance added more glamour to the movie and both of them had an item song each in the movie. Shatrughan Sinha, taking inspiration from his successful role in the movie ‘Aadmi Sadak Kaa’, played the role of a good-hearted person helping the poor. But his sister becomes the victim of dowry which changes his mind.
‘Bihaari Baabu-1985’ has nine songs composed by Chitragupt and written by Braj Kishore Dubey. The singers for this movie are Usha Mangeshkar, Chandrani Mukherjee, Suresh Wadkar, Alka Yagnik, Manhar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, and Shabbir Kumar.
Today I am presenting the first song from this movie sung by Alka Yagnik and Manhar. Shakeela Majid (as the link of the song mentioned) and Shatrughan Sinha lip-sync in the voices of Alka Yagnik and Manhar respectively. Their mother (I am unable to identify the female actor)is also present in the picturisation of this song.
This song also has a sad version in the voice of Manhar where we see Shatrughan Sinha and others mourning at the funeral pyre of Shatrughan Sinha’s sister.
